I wanted to go into the military since i was very young, but I panicked before leaving to BCT after joining the army, and quit before I went.
I wish I had not done this. When talking to my friend who recruited me in the first place he suggests that I join the national guard, i still very much would like to be in the military,
and the national guard is less time consuming allowing me to rest from social stress. But I am still afraid of all the changes that would take place in training and
would like to ask advice from anyone here about ways to cope with all of the differences and to make social endeavors easier so that I can complete training if I get the courage to
join.

How did you quit? Had you actually signed up then got out of it, or had you talked about it to a recruiter and then backed out before you went for your physical etc?

The training is going to be the same. You will be yelled at, called names, forced to do things you don't want to and can hardly stand. For six solid weeks.

Then, whose to say it's only one weekend a month and a few weeks in the summer? Many, many Guard units have been called up. We have a friend in the Guard who has been in the Middle East three times, for six months each time.

He does have some pretty cool automatic weapons at his house though, so it's a tradeoff.

I'm pretty sure the national guard should have a website that shows videos of it. maybe get a preview from there?

That. You can't sign a contract and then back out. Gov owns your ass at that point.

Yep. You may end up anywhere from driving vehicles in 'Stan to being stationed in some overseas base you've never heard of, to actual combat.

:D

Anywa, my advice would be to join the USAF (if they'll take you) or Coast Guard. You'll sleep in your own bed every night, and (probably) won't get shot at (much).

Thank you all, I think I may just go to college directly instead, and I had actually signed the contract but my recruiter understood my reasoning so he allowed them to terminate the contract before I shipped, to clarify.

as a veteran of the USMC and recon, if you dont have the DD-12 then your set and US army basic is the easiest of all the branches there they are not allowed to yell at you and call you names, unlike other branches the national guard is a good thing to join ad if you go to college you cant get deployed. i would consider this as a option.

There's always the Coast Guard. That's almost like military. ;-)
