I started doing this about 4 years ago when i hit a really bad patch and it really helped me out of a lot of dire situations.

I keep a small pocket book on me with a collection of inspiring and useful quotes i pick up from different places. I don't put the author of the original quote as it can really change the meaning of the words if you know who's said it and i found it kind of made it difficult to just get things down in the long run, not to mention a lot of quotes i write down are from overheard conversations or have even just popped into my head.

I especially like those little things you find, in passing. Usually when a bit down and out. That can suddenly just alter your frame of mind from a simple sentence on a plinth, or an overheard conversation.

I thought I'd post a few here, and more importantly would really like to hear yours!

Please post your own sayings/inspiring quotes, they don't have to be from other people. Why would what you have to say be less important than them?

you deserve what you tolerate

Quote:
your genius lives in the walls, not you! Do your job and hope that he does his (remember that creative success is on loan to you)

Quote:
if there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other persons point of view and see things from that persons angle as well as from your own

it's from a friend of ours who has a rather pessimistic outlook on life. Actually it's two people, a question and response, not sure if that was clear or not.

8O Me too! I collect the ones that I like and dub it my own personal Bible (as sacrilegious as it sounds). Whenever I'm feeling down, I write them down on a spare piece of paper as a reminder to myself to stay strong, open-minded, and true to myself. I've even written quotes on sticky notes and stuck them on my bedroom wall.

Quote:
I don't put the author of the original quote as it can really change the meaning of the words if you know who's said it

I've never really minded who said what, but I love Nietzche's quotes and I get playful flak from my older sister since she doesn't like him, lol.

I really love a bunch of yours (shanking some into my own collection, thanks). Here's a couple I like.

Quote:
It is selfish to love people and expect them to love you back.

Quote:
"Was it hard, letting go?"
"Not as hard as holding on to something that wasn't real."

Quote:
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

Quote:
You become responsible forever, for what you have tamed.

Quote:
"You don't drown by falling in the water, you drown by staying there."

Quote:
The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.

Quote:
The rain fell alike upon the just and upon the unjust, and for nothing was there a why and a wherefore.

Quote:
"What makes life so difficult?"
"People."

Quote:
I had the blues because I had no shoes until upon the street, I met a man who had no feet.

Quote:
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.

Quote:
We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.

Quote:
Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.

Quote:
I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.

Quote:
The choices we make in life aren’t always accurate reflections of the people we are inside but they are what everyone else around us sees, for better or for worse.

Quote:
Whatever is done from love always occurs beyond good and evil.

Quote:
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look long into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

Quote:
It is terrible to die of thirst in the ocean. Do you have to salt your truth so heavily that it does not even quench thirst anymore?

Quote:
You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.

Quote:
Bad things are always going to happen in life. People will hurt you, but you can't use that as an excuse to hurt someone back.

Quote:
The only reason people hold on to memories so tight is because memories are the only things that don't change when everything else does.

Quote:
Angry people are not always wise.

Quote:
You can tell more about a person by what he says about others than you can by what others say about him.

Quote:
Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia. (…) You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you’ll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.

Quote:
Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.

Quote:
If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive.

Quote:
Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

Quote:
If you are going to let every little thing bother you its going to be a very long night.

Quote:
Don't overthink. You'll create a problem that wasn't even there in the first place.

Quote:
Not everyone is going to love you back. That's why it's important to love yourself more than anything.

Quote:
Contemplation often makes life miserable. We should act more, think less, and stop watching ourselves live.

Quote:
Accept the things I cannot change, hope for the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Quote:
Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should. Let go when you cannot change.

Quote:
The truth is that everybody's going to hurt you. You just have to find the ones worth suffering for.

Quote:
I don’t want to be married just to be married. I can’t think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can’t talk to, or worse, someone I can’t be silent with.

Quote:
There's no point in going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.

Quote:
Success isn't about conquering something. It's being happy with who you are.

Quote:
Love when you're ready. Not when you're lonely.

Quote:
Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it.

Quote:
Happiness is a direction, not a destination.

Quote:
Don't let your pride get in the way of what your heart is trying to say.

Quote:
I don't believe in good or evil. I believe in perspectives.
