I met this guy about a month ago, and messaged him once after that and asked him how he was doing. It was odd because he ignored it then, but then ever since he's been texting, calling, and messaging me.

A few weeks ago, he messaged and said "I'm really hating life right now I dont know what to do". I just met this guy and he's saying this to me. Though I want to help him, he already creeped me about contacting so many times without me replying. I replied with "oh" because I have a habit of getting in a relationship with an abuser who uses that as a way to lure me in; i then care about him, and he takes advantage of it. Anyways, after I replied "oh", he replied with "how have u been". WHAT THE F***! !! ! If he actually was having issues with life, how could he switch over in a matter of seconds?!?! Can anyone translate for me?

There could be a lot of reasons.

He ignored your first message? If he's sending you this many now, maybe he was away from the computer or simply didn't see it.

I think when people are in a desperate situation and they have no one--they vent to anyone.

The "how have u been" isn't really switching over from being depressed to suddenly being happy. People who have issues still have to live.

They eat, they sleep and they socialize--they're just depressed as they do it.

But I mean at the end of the day the choice is yours, you don't have to continue the friendship if the guy creeps you out, bugs you or you don't find him worth talking to.

I should add this. He has adhd, but he doesn't have autism (at least to his knowledge). We went over autism as I work with autistic children and whatnot.

I'm not sure if adhd also interferes with understanding social signals, or if his behavior is in fact over-the-top for someone who does understand.
