Just another day/year of being "alone" on my birthday. My daughter didn't call (she's an Aspie also) and my wife never even mentioned it once today. I'm not the type to fish for compliments or to remind people of my needs, and that gets me into trouble at times. Just really makes me wonder what is wrong with me that those so called "loved ones" can't even do a simple thing like wish someone a happy birthday. Makes me hate birthdays and holidays all the more.

Well does this now give you license to do that same? Just shrug and explain you didn't get people a present or card because based on this you figured they didn't think birthday's were a big deal.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, it's nice to know that you're not totally alone.

Happy Birthday!!

I wasn't talking to my family much and they weren't calling me on my birthdays, and it always kinda made me feel sad. I always sent greeting cards but I wasn't calling them on their birthdays either so how could I complain?

A couple of months ago I decided to start forcing myself to call my mom, dad and sister once a week which is huge because prior to that it was like once a year. I let them know I was going to do this, I didn't just start out of the blue. I want to be closer to them and the weekly calls are helping. I have to actually think up and write down subjects to talk about, otherwise we would just sit there silent on the phone with nothing to say (which is the reason why I used to never call them). Now I look forward to our weekly conversations and so do they.
