I recently got called in for a job interview at a tech company i've always wanted to work for. I am a college freshmen with some intern experience, so I was surprised they wanted me to come in. I interviewed well, and was told that they'd let me know by the end of the week about a possible 2nd interview.

I knew that I wasn't the only applicant applying for the position. I have the skills necessary for the job, however being a college student I can't say i have a whole lot of professional experience. (besides the internship) I got a letter pf rejection today, letting me know they chose to go with someone with more experience. I figured as such, but I guess I was hoping by some outside chance I still was in the running.

I did appreciate being informed of the decision, most jobs I apply for are a black hole as far as communication goes. Any advice on how to deal with it? Have you ever had an experience like this?

I got a rejection letter from apple. And I told them to *$*#% themselves, because they made us group interview and do all of
these stupid and pointless activities. So I was a little peeved that they took my time away from me only to send
me a letter of rejection. It felt humiliating. At least they didn't make you get into groups and write down
scenarios and "sign in" and play their stupid theme song and dance, or make you watch an "intro video"
when you're not even in a second interview.

I would just take it with a grain of salt and sigh. And then binge eat your feelings away.

Hey White Widow, I see you've changed your avatar. Who is the character?

Yeah, what you describe is sort of what the interview was like. There was a pre interview exam, and during the interview I had to solve problems on a blackboard. I can't help feeling like my awkwardness may have cost me the job! I guess i'll just continue my education and hope for the best. I did send a thank you note to them despite the rejection letter. I figure it might grease the wheels next time around.

I think I will take your advice and go to a chinese buffet tomorrow!

You handled it well. Thank you note is all you need. Then just move on. Usually it's nothing personal. They just pick the person/people they like better because they can. Because you don't have as much experience, that can work to your disadvantage, but not always. If the company does not want to pay someone as much, they might prefer someone with less experience. THey won't let you know that right out, you just have to press your luck and possibly get lucky.

Since you don't have much experience, consider temp work or volunteer work too.

It happens to everyone AS, NT, and everything in between. I have applied for jobs that got black holed, jobs I interviewed and got black holed, and jobs I interviewed and got rejected. It happens, especially nowadays.

I would suggest try to improve on what they didn't like. Get more experience. Does your school have an IT division? Do they hire students? I worked for 4 years at the student help desk and got a ton of valuable experience.

Your only a college freshmen, and if your making it to the interview round now, I think you generally have good prospects once you get some experience.

Yeah, my school does have an IT department and i've worked as a computer lab assistant. I assisted instructors with creating online classes and did general maintenance on the lab computers.

Thanks for your encouraging words.

Keep doing that, work as much as you can, and build your experience. Look for opportunities to move up or to take on special projects.

Neat idea would be to possibly write a letter just saying to them thank you for considering you for the job and getting back to you promptly.
