My son works at this store that some friends own that's a liqour store, convenience store, deli, and has a room to rent out for parties. It's the same one where there was a fight a little while back. Anyway, last night the girl who owns it with her husband was there by herself and about 7 at night a guy comes in with a mask and a gun and tells her open the register, and so she did and got under the counter where her gun is, but he had grabbed the money and was gone by then.

I hear they haven't arrested him yet. She knows who he is. He had been in there earlier playing pool wearing the same clothes he robbed her in. He's not but about 18 or 19.

I don't think she's going to work there at night alone anymore. It's not a good idea. I'm just shocked that she got robbed here!

The thing that stunned me the most is that she was actually willing to enter a firefight about it..

Well, if someone's robbing me, I can't guarantee that they have my best interests in mind. A good percentage of robberies turn into murders/attempt murders/assaults, so it's best to assume that if someone is robbing you, they will kill you if they need to, or just for kicks because they're probably not nice people if they're robbing people.

And, she didn't enter a firefight about it, but I think it quite logical to go for your gun in case things escalate further, so you can like, survive.

In hindsight, we know that the criminal was only after the money. In the heat of the moment, she had no idea. Is this guy going to just rob and run, or rape me, or even kill me? It's not unheard of for criminals to rape or kill victims during robberies. She had every reasonable belief to assume that her life was in danger and that someone was leaving in a body bag and I think she did the right thing.

A lot of criminals also won't use guns in robberies, because it adds potential charges up to death if you live in a death penalty state.

I wonder if it would be more practical in the future for her to carry the firearm on her person, perhaps in a concealed manner.

Well she knew who he was. I think that it's (only) slightly less frightening to have someone you know wave a gun at you than someone you don't know, but she was also mad. She owns the store!

I found out a few minutes ago that instead of just taking the money and leaving, the idiot took the whole register. Whats he gonna do with that? It's the same guy that stole my sons phone last time. He's a complete idiot.
