I'm not too upset over this, just pretty ticked off. I've posted about how the dogs have torn up the siding etc on the back side of the house on the deck. I also have several leaks in the roof, and one three of my windows need to be replaced. It can be difficult to schedule someone from Tuscaloosa or Birmingham to come out here, because they have so much work where they are that it's not worth their trouble.

I found a local guy and checked around with people who knew him and who he did work for before. He checked out, so OK. He came out and gave me an estimate and talked to my SIL, who is in charge of the money that is used for the upkeep of the house. She sent him a check for half. He was supposed to come out a couple weeks ago and start. Something happened.

The first time he wasn't here he tells me that somebody ran over his septic tank and he had to stay there to help with that. Now, it had been a month since the estimate and a few weeks since he got the check, but he had us scheduled after he finished some existing jobs. That was fine with me. A few days after the septic tank fiasco he was on his way here when he "wrecked his truck". Uh huh. The other driver ran too. Or so he said.

So then I kept trying to get him and couldn't get ahold of him and finally I posted on his FB that he either needed to come out and do this or give me a refund and I'd find somebody who could do it. He showed up the next morning with a crew and they did a good bit of the exterior work on the back of the house. They were coming back, and coming back, and coming back, but something still kept coming up. He came and started on it last Monday. Nothing has been done since.

I've talked to him over the weekend, etc and he promised to be here this morning. It's this morning and he's not here. I called and left a message then FB messaged him and said thats it, if it's not going to be done then I want a refund or we can go to court. I'm not playing this game. Not ten minutes later he called me and said he's leaving his house about 10am after it dries off some outside, because it rained last night and he has to paint the door today.

I said "OK, but if you don't come today, that's it." He assured me he would be here. We'll see.

When he comes, I'm going to tell him to just do the work that the money he already has will pay for and I'll get someone more reliable to do the roof and windows.

You can put a fork in me. I'm done.

You don't want somebody to flake in the middle of doing a roof. That's bad news.

I hear you,I had a friend's husband replace a fawcett on my bathroom sink.I thought everything was hunky-dory,he had done some other work here and did a good job.The next morning I get up and the bathroom floor is swimming in water. It stained my baseboards, warped the bottom of my sinks cabinet. What's a real bummer is that I had that whole floor replaced a few years ago because the washing machine had a secret leak and some of the floor was rotten,as in growing mushrooms rotten. So now my new floor has again been saturated with water, plus the other damages.I call B. and tell him what happened,he lives an hour or so from here and can you beleive he was going to charge me road time at $18.00 an hour!I said never mind,my sons friend came over and looked at it,B.had used putty on plastic pipes instead of plumbers tape or glue.It was totally his fault!! !!And he was going to charge me for fixing his damm mistake. If I was the litigating type I'd take him to small claims and request a refund, replacement of all water damaged baseboards and the sinks cabinet. We are no longer friends.
I don't know what your income situation is but since I am low income I qualified for a weatherasation(I know that's spelled wrong)program where they came out and did all my weather stripping, replaced three bad windows with new thermapanes. It was a free government program, the guys that did it were great!Maybe that is available in your area.Good luck.

He's here now, by himself to do stuff. Hopefully he will get it done, but either way I'm done with him.
