I sometimes wonder if there is anything in Austin I am missing out on. When I go, it’s usually to go to the stores I like, attend one of the arcades, catch a band I am interested in if they are playing at a venue, watch an anime movie at the Alamo and eat some food that I can’t get in the city I live in. But is there something else I should be doing that I am missing out on?
Attend an Aspie/HFA support group.
If the group is Christian-dominated (something you complained about before, if I remember correctly) wear a button (or something) that somehow indicates you're an atheist without expressing it too aggressively. Also, be conspicuously carrying a book or two of some kind that you especially like to read (e.g. a science fiction novel, if I remember correctly)? It won't make you popular in the group as a whole, but it will, hopefully, attract anyone there who shares your beliefs and/or interests.
Be open to making male friends as well as female friends.
Once you've made a friend or two at an Aspie/HFA support group (or wherever), start attending Meetup groups on topics of common interest together. Being there with someone you already know will make this much less awkward.
