Still haven't smoked. Stopped at midnight New Years Eve. Gave the rest of my cigs away and so far so good. I want one, but I want it less than I did yesterday. I normally smoke about a pack and a half to two packs a day, and I think a lot of that is habit. I want to smoke because I smoke when I do <whatever>.

Everybody here smokes except my youngest daughter and she smokes occasionally when she's with a friend who smokes. Maybe one or two cigarettes a month. If I could smoke like that, I'd be fine but I know if I smoke one now that's it, I'll be smoking again. The smell of it doesn't bother me though, and I thought it would. It's not making me want one more or anything.

I have some Altoids and I actually made myself get off my butt and do some housework today, which I've been too depressed to actually do for about a month. I think now that Christmas and all the crisis stuff is over with I'm feeling better. I'm going to sit here and eat my Altoids and do a little organizing around here later, and hopefully not smoke. If it doesn't get any worse than this, I can do it.

I've quit before with Welbutrin, and that's easy as can be. It makes cigs taste bad and also makes you not mind not smoking. I quit once with the patch and xanax, but this time it's cold turkey. I didn't even get the Nicorette gum yet.

Ever consider electronic cigarettes? My friend smokes those. You'll still have the problems of nicotine (ie, stimulant affects), but your lungs won't get messed up. There's the crappy disposable ones in stores, but if you go online you can buy nice ones, and get big bottles of juice for them in quite literally any flavor you want.

I'm picky about what brands of cigarettes I like, so I probably wouldn't like the electronic one. I think just white knuckling it and getting it over with is probably best. As soon as I get used to not smoking, I'll be fine.

Also, I'm trying to keep busy other than just sitting here, so I'm getting up and doing little chores here and there. The last thing I did was scoot the couch out from the wall in the den and sweep up the dog hair and change and such. I found a cigarette. It had apparantly fallen under the couch but there it was. My brand too, and not the cheap brand I smoke when I can't afford the ones I like! I was so tempted, but I took it downstairs and gave it to my older daughter. I thought about putting it away in case I decide to smoke later, but I knew that I would just find an excuse to smoke it.

Next I'm cleaning the dog hair from behind the bookshelves in the den. There's three to move. Luckily we have wood floors and they all slide easily.

If you run out of dog hair at your house, you can come over to mine. You're still on the prayer board here.

My grandfather quit cold turkey after I was born. He said the worst part was the brain fogs, he'd be going along and suddenly he couldn't remember where he was, what he was doing, or sometimes stuff like his name. It would come back after 5-10 minutes, but it scared the crap out of him. He was maybe just under a decade older than you when he quit. So if you get something like that, know it's a symptom of quitting.

Congrats :) I'm sure you can do it. I did it! I am a lil over a year now since I've stopped! It was only after I hit that first year that I smoked two and YUCK! BUT I am finding that I prefer to smoke ONLY when I drink. Luckily I don't drink much now. Chantix REALLY helped me. None of those e-cigs would do it. They aren't ANYTHING close to the real thing. Gum, suckers, altoids, really helped too! But the bad part I ended up gaining some weight. But I hope to join a gym or something. Just need to get a routine down to do it.
