Purpose of Relatives
I find Relatives meaningless.. For one we have to keep in touch with them just because they are related to us in someway or other and they are not compatible with us either
Most of the relatives in my fathers side barely were in touch with us and in my mom's side they invite us for their childrens wedding and they come for our weddings
Other then that there is no contact or touch.
I dont understand the purpose of attending their weddings, funerals or birth ceremonies when they are barely interacting with us other times.
Should i keep in touch with them......honestly from bottom of my heart i feel uncomfortable with them around me and all this social compulsions....

I look at it this way. I first ask myself would I be friends with these people if they were not related to me. I mean all of them, parents, sisters, cousins, aunts and so on.
Next I ask how I feel being around them. Then I go from there. As for me I only deal with my sister. She is on the spectrum as well. I am much happier!

I can't really answer your main question for you, but did want to mention the family unit historically for perspective.
Families are the basic social unit people are born into and in most places still the main support network of individuals. This is a natural feature that humans have developed over time like many other animals and originally was also advantageous for survival. Family ties also are inately strong as is reflected in the saying 'Blood is thicker the water'. But this comes more naturally to NTs and in AS the social needs and functioning is suppressed.
The history of Aspergers/Autism (like in hundreds of thousands of years) is at this point mostly unknown and the subject of spectulation mainly. But the current theories tend to try and find a place for Autistics in these early family clans as experts at some specialty or in spiritual (shaman) roles. For instance Aspies might be especialy good at gathering and sorting seeds, which is a tedious and meticulus task, etc. In Native American Society, some tribes considered mentally different people to be 'touched by god' and they were respected and sometimes served as the spiritual leaders, both male and female.

This is a interesting reply.
I agree that blood is thicker then water... and thats the reason how much BS relatives do with us we ultimately put up with them and we continue tolerating them which is so much unlike the friends, acquaintances we meet on the way.
Are you native american?? because i was quite attracted to native american cultures and used to listen to their songs etc.
Its wonderful to know that they believed mentally different people were touched by God....because i used to feel i was a shaman or something in my past incarnations.
But todays world and western culture is too much NT and i have let these thoughts take a back seat and i am trying hard to be rational and logical.
But its getting quite disturbing to connect with relatives and all they converse is about other relatives.

I don't have Native American ancestory, but also was interested in their culture. I think what I like most was their way of living with the natural world which was more respectful and non-destructive. Their way of looking at animals is particularly admirable.

Most of the Eastern cultures are all about respect to nature, animals and non destructive
I am from India and majority people here are vegetarian, also we worship trees and nature elements
Same is case in China and Japan.
Australian Natives were quite similar to native americans.
