I'm probably a lot older than most here but I miss the days when everyone looked the same. No tatoos covering bodies. No piercings in every available slab of skin. No green, blue, pink or orange hair. No bro buds patches of skin on chin (whatever they r called). Society not cluttered with people trying to stand out and be "individuals" It just seems like the entire goal of existence these days is to get attention for oneself. It makes me want to vomit.

<--- Childhood? Pain, misery and suffering.
<--- Adulthood? Suicidal feelings, drug abuse, homelessness.
<--- Nowadays? Meh. Could be better but I'm not complaining.

Well I am in my 20's, but I see what you mean. Today people try to stand out far too much and have too high of an opinion of themselves. I also notice that today's people have no sense of community or selflessness. It really is a shame. Even since when I grew up in the 1990's things have changed for the worse. I think bad economy and lack of opportunity makes this a true dog-eat-dog world.

My theory is that social media has given many people a false sense of importance and entitlement, but I'm sure it's much more complex.
