Ashamed, disgusted, and ANGRY to be human in today's world

I don't plan to stick around, as I've come to learn that I am not capable of establishing any form of friendship with others, but I'm going to leave this rant here anyway as it's the only way I can keep from just giving up and putting a bullet in my brain.

I am an artist. I was born an artist and will die one. The things that others hold as important (money, sex, the concept of "face," etc.) mean less than nothing to me. I believe the artist is infinitely more important than the businessman. Sadly for me, society does not think so. EVERYTHING in today's world is about making $$$$$$$$$$$. You have to make money in any way, no matter who or what it harms. Art has suffered greatly due to this corrupt way of thinking.

The combination of $$$$$$$$$ worship and the outright glorification of plain STUPIDITY has ruined the world, turned humanity into a mockery, and has killed any motivation I once had towards life.

Example given - Director J.J. Abrams claims that the new Star Trek must "be sexy" in order to be successful. Star Trek (the real one, not Abrams' perversion of it) is good for the precise reason that it ISN'T "sexy." "Sexy" gave us Michael Bay's perversion of Transformers. "Sexy" gave us Justin Bieber, when kids today don't even know who Mozart is. "Sexy" is the reason A Game of Thrones (basically a bunch of arguing and violence meant for the economically privileged upper-middle class, who have never had to struggle in their life) is so popular, while people think "Homer" is a cartoon character.

If the real first Star Trek film were to be released today, it would make less than a million dollars and would be panned by critics as being
"boring." If anything of Mozart's was released today, it would be laughed at on Youtube as "dorky noise" and panned for not consisting mainly of people grinding their crotches together like animals at rut. If anything of Homer's was released today, it would be panned as "too hard to understand."

I used to think that the 90s marked the death of art. How very wrong I turned out to be. Mediocre films such as Jurassic Park outright destroy any of the trash produced today. Even Nirvana, a horribly laughable band by 90s standards, destroys today's shouting randomly, or as society calls it, "music."

I recently made the mistake of using "vice-versa" while speaking with someone. She looked at me as if I were Einstein and said "whoa, ain't that, like, something that guy from the Matrix said? How'd you get so smart?"

I am not saying that I am special. Quite the contrary. (Whoooooaaaaa, another one of those BIG words...) I am in fact quite stupid myself, when compared to people such as Hawking and Nietzsche. (Whooooaaaa, like, who are those people????)

But the average human being in today's world is just so incredibly stupid, so mindlessly dull, so wilfully uneducated, so obsessed with the basic animal needs of food, leisure, and sex, that I'd rather be dead.

I feel like an Angel being forced to share a jail cell with a living, breathing pile of horse feces.

Escape. Buy land deep in the woods and go there, forever, and never come out. I'm planning it already, as soon as I get my debts paid. People are just stupid, and it's brainwashing and mind control, research Nazi mind control methods, Nazis were hired by our govt after Vietnam to make sure there would never be another close call. Fluoride in the water, poison in the food, and TV.

I wuold eithre go becoem a hermit - whch i kind of am now - or els find a comunity taht lives in similar fashion, closr to natuer and/or mosly away frm modrn society. The lattr is wht i do more than being isolated liek a hermitt - me, my famly, my whoel comunity liev on the fringe and baerly haev anythng modrn or have modern ways. Almos all of us produc our own foods an traed among each othr for thngs we dont grow, soem of us raise sheep for wool we also traade among ourslves for clothes, and prety much everyone knws how to maek thyre own clothing, hunt, trap, fish, builld sheltre, a variety of real skills so that we dont haev to depnd on anything as artificaial as money or enslaev or subscribe ourslves to a system jus to suppoort ourselvs. Prety much modrn gadgets aer just play things taht we soemtimes use, but we certinly dont build our leivs around thm or find it imposible to get by withuot them - lol, i onl instaled electricty (which i get for free becuse of...lol soem dubiouss ways) in the past cuople decades, and it ws onl so taht i wuold have easire way to ues my computre - I dont realy haev much lightin, still usin candles and wood, and th only thngs i own taht run on electrcty are all entertinment items save for th ice box, whch at lest alows me to keep moer food aruond wthuot havin to salt or pickle as much - evrything else i stil do evrything else by hand or wth primitiv ways, liek washin cloths by hand, drawin watrer from my well (as I dont haev runnin water), maintining a garden for lot of th components of my diett, caring for a cow for milk, huntin ocasionaly for meat, makng my own cloths by tradin othres for wool, etc.

Prety much mony is obsolete to me - i onl soemtiems get a job if i wuold like to purchaes soem books or knick knack or pay for my intrenet, all of whch I am wel aware i dont need, I jus treat myslf to them (though hav been givin thuoght to discontinuing intrenet for certin reasons, I am onl heistant becuse then i wuold loose acess to the academic databases I liek to look at unles i use soemone elses computer). But ayways, yuo could liev like that or else do mch liek we were not taht long ago, havin almos nothing modern - it brngs peace and satifaction eithre way, unliek bein fully integrated into the menaingless modern world wher everything is always a squable over money and prostituting yuorself. I liek to take solace in the fact taht when there pointles world colapses, me and my family an frinds will be ok whiel much of the fools starve and die off becuse they dont know how to liev withuot money.

Well, my advice is that since you are so much smarter and better than everybody else, you should certainly be able to find a career that brings you wealth by duping the mental midgets and the ethically empty and make so much well deserved money so fast that you should soon be able to buy your own island and only inhabit it with whatever lowly humans you think may one day be worthy of your presence.

Film is a commodity. Sex sells. The liberal arts are viewed as a waste of time and cost, and popular culture has become celebrity worship. . Artwork is primarily viewed as a commodity, as people stockpile their attics and wait for that value to appreciate. Nothing new here.

I'm in agreement with you generally as regards the quality of much of the output in today's society but I do not see 'Startrek' as a cultural highpoint and I think 'Game of Thrones' is brilliant! and I'm an exceedingly hard person to please as regards TV series.

Have you seen the film 'Idiocracy'? I think you'd like it a lot as a comment on society's stupidity and where it could lead in the future

There are still some good films being made amongst the general rubbish. I thought 'Zero Dark Thirty' was very good for instance.

There's still classical music being composed too, it's just less mainstream now.

You won't kill yourself because you're too arrogant. You can't kill yourself because you hate something else. It doesn't work that way. Only when you find a way to blame yourself for everything you just said will you want to kill yourself. But you're smart enough that, by then, you'll have been questioning so much that you'll question the conclusion that the universe is your fault, and you'll have refuted all the negative, judgmental claims you've made on other people, so that the only thing you can be sad or angry about is pure existence, but pure existence is not something you have any control over: killing yourself does nothing for that absurdity. For all you know you'll just keep existing in some other, possibly even more annoying, form. And then all you're left with is a decision whether or not to feel something in particular. There's chemical stuff going on but as long as you keep eating healthy enough and exercising and keeping yourself practically out of harms way so you aren't in over your cognitive capacity (that's probably the hardest part), you can feel whatever you want to feel. Have fun with it. Try to expose yourself to new stuff and push other people to defend what you think are ignorant claims.

OR you could just keep blaming everyone and everything else and feel crappy and die of cancer young and loveless.


Most of the time I'd agree with your evaluation of the average human being, but all those average little human beings have feelings, just like yours, but about different things. If you think "sexy" is bad, make your own "sexy" by backing up the feeling (of wanting to have sex with someone - that's where the word comes from) with all your intellectual doo-dads - and then find someone to make some love with (this is actually pretty important) who has enough that you can use your imagination to complete your sexy picture, or start doing more imagination exercises. the gift of fantasization.

Stop being so down on people enjoying what you don't have the balls to enjoy yourself.

If contemporary consisted of shouting randomly, I would listen to more of it.

I don't hold our popular culture in the highest regards either. In fact, I think the problem with the media is that it insists on style over substance in the name of making a profit, or a killing at the ratings. As a creative artist, I know where you're coming from. Even if our culture is stagnant for the time being, I hope that those special, precious few of today's youth get their chance at reviving it.

What kind of art are you into? Just curious.

I've never really cared for the latest in popular culture. I was turned off by popular culture at the age of 14 to the point that I've started living in a time warp unintentionally. I've started to listen to the music that I still listen to, today. I've been a 60s type Mod for the majority of my life. I tried the hippie thing for a year and a half, than went back to being myself (the Mod). That all started in 1989. Popular culture has gotten progressively worse with each passing year. I've tried the Punk Rocker thing out of anger for shock value in 2007. That didn't work, so I went back to being myself (the Mod) in the Early Fall of 2009. Popular culture is now at an all time low, so it looks like I'll be set in my ways for a very long time. I deal with popular culture by being myself, doing my own thing and liking the things that I like. The only thing that I did out of arrogance was the Punk Rocker thing and I've failed at it very badly.
