I think my online friend is going to doing something awful tonight and i'm scared. This is the conversation we had tonight:

TrackandField716 (10:03:21 PM): {whining}
bettametal (10:03:36 PM): y? stop that!
TrackandField716 (10:04:19 PM): no, I won't
bettametal (10:04:39 PM): well then at least tell y u feel the need to whine
TrackandField716 (10:05:08 PM): j/cause
bettametal (10:05:15 PM): hmm ok
bettametal (10:06:11 PM): well i feel whiney too but it's bc i am homesick and don't want to be here
bettametal (10:07:18 PM): and i have to memorize a bunch of plants by common and latin names and by family
TrackandField716 (10:08:24 PM): I think I should go lie down and curl up in a bal
lTrackandField716 (10:08:36 PM):
bettametal (10:09:09 PM): that always makes me feel nice and safe, especially when i pull a blanket over my head too
bettametal (10:09:33 PM): but people fuss at me when i do
bettametal (10:10:13 PM): here's a funny word to cheer u up: scrophulariaceae
bettametal (10:10:27 PM): basically i just wanted to type that
bettametal (10:10:34 PM): probably won't cheer u up
TrackandField716 (10:10:53 PM): I'm a failure at life
bettametal (10:11:05 PM): y do u say that?
bettametal (10:11:38 PM): i'll listen if you want to talk
TrackandField716 (10:12:39 PM): I should just be eliminated from the species as to not corrupt the human gene pool
bettametal (10:12:48 PM): what's wrong blaze?
bettametal (10:15:01 PM): ...
TrackandField716 (10:15:35 PM): I'm here
bettametal (10:15:41 PM): ok
bettametal (10:16:06 PM): u're really down all of a sudden

He's never just signed off without giving a reason or saying bye. He's also never metioned wanting be "eliminated from the human species." To me that sounds like he wants to die. I'm praying he doesn't mean suicide..... I'm holding my breath hoping that he will sign back on tomorrow. I'm so scared and there's nothing I can do. I don't know the guy in person, but I know he lives in NY, which is far away from here, and we haven't shared phone numbers. I just hope he signs back on so that I know he's ok.

I've done that a few times. Mostly it was because I didn't want the conversation to end, but I needed to just be alone for a while. But that's just me. I hope your friend signs on soon.

I think its great that you are that caring of an online friend, but I think you are worrying too much. Sounds like a depressed kid or one just down in the dumps and saying things to get attention. But I didn't see anything in the conversation that was red flags for serious suicide. A lot of people that are depressed will say things like he did trying to find someone to talk to about their troubles. I think he will be just fine and you should not sit up all night worrying.

I'm pretty sure he'll be fine. Don't worry about it.

Thanks guys. I took your advice and tried not to worry, and went on to bed.

But I've got some really good news - ya'll were right, he's fine

He's online now. He doesn't want to talk about what happened, but at least he's alright.

Most people who talk about killing themselves don't "really" want to go through with it. They are bouncing it off you looking for a reaction. Doesn't mean he won't do it in the future, just probably not tonight.

I get worried about a lot of my suicidal EBuddies too. (I've got a few of those)

Most of the time, abrupt ends like that are just because connections died (not them). It'd be fairly rude if they just hit the button because they didn't want to talk (that is to say, one should at least say 'goodbye' or the like). Still, I hope they're okay. I absolutely hate it when people kill themselves (the awful thing is, I think many hate the people that have)
