Hello folks, I'm writing to you all upon being rudely awakened by something that has become what I feel is an epidemic in small cities:

Young men who feel the need to rev their motorcycle engines so unnecessarily loud that everyone within earshot and beyond can hear them!

God DAMMIT!! On no less then seven occasions I can remember being snapped out of a state of slumber because these males (and it's ALWAYS guys) have to proclaim to the whole neighborhood "B*tches love my penis 'cause it's REALLY big!!" (or at least, that's what they WANT people to think!) Nobody gives a F*CK! It's LOUD AND INCONSIDERATE! Unnecessary motorcycle engine revving is nothing more then a form of cock-waggling; just a bunch of men standing around in a field waving their pricks at each other, and it's driving me BONKERS!

And the biggest injustice of all? I've allegedly heard that in some places, my apartment's city included, it's illegal to do that, and with enough evidence, one can actually be arrested. *rolls eyes* Yeah, right. It just keeps happening every summer without fail, and these incidents happen at juuuuust the right pace that they're not frequent enough to be made a police matter, but enough that it's still an annoyance to everyone; it's bulls**t.

I know that my venting here won't change the situation for me, but I figured it was high time I did SOMETHING to vent, otherwise, I would gladly go out late at night and deliver some vigilante justice on these vehicles, preferably involving keys and my own urine. Yeah, I said that; even after having to pay a fine for such petty criminal behavior a year ago, I'd do it again...it would even be WORTH getting caught, if I could just wreck one of their ultra-precious machines; their proof of their machismo, even if it was for a little while.

I mean, I'm sure some of you guys can relate to my situation, right? Please, feel free to comment.

Loud revving motors makes me jump, too. I do appreciate the beauty of these machines and the extreme care their owners put into them; I just wish they weren't so darn loud.

I do understand that cycle riders are sitting ducks out on the road so their noise alerts drivers to their presence.

Oh, and sitting out in a field in the wee hours of the morning just revving their engines is in poor taste.

*nods* I guess you do have a point there. Yes, some noise is necessary in order to alert drivers who aren't aware of your presence; it's when they do it for no reason at all other then that they can, that pisses me off.

And my mom can attest to that last thing you said. She too sometimes has to deal with one neighbor's revving at like 6 in the morning.

Oh my god--- I feel your pain! This makes me murderously angry. We have a horrible neighbor across the street who does this every weekend and wakes up my daughters. It's sick behavior-- sadistic, really. These people know full well how obnoxious they are, and get glee out of hurting others.

The old apartment I lived at for six years? Some jackass on the street behind our apartment would constantly drive up and down the freaking street for half an hour almost every weekend. I can't even begin to count the number of times that the cops were called on that SOB. I was so glad when I left that crap at the end of last year. There's a guy who rides a motorcycle where I live now, but I guess something was said about him, because I rarely even hear him these days.

Here's what my best friend yells when she hears an obnoxiously revved engine:

"Alright! We get it! You have a small penis."

*Used to have a Toyota Supra with a broken exhaust and a manual transmission I'd usually wake up at like 6AM and rev it to like 5000RPM in 1st gear going out of my apartment complex.*

It's fun to drive quickly and rev your engine.

Bike girl here.

If you want to get back at them - do not piss on their bikes or key them.

Instead - install mufflers on their bikes. They will last much longer. See how long it takes them to notice. It will also help the revving issue that annoys you so much.
The damn things are so loud because most remove their mufflers.

Sound alerts are only for emergency vehicles.
They have no right to claim they need volume to stay alive on the city streets. What about electric cars, what about bicycles, what about pedestrians crossing a road.
The volume is breaking the laws that NTs thought were appropriated and voted into place.

Just don't get any brake fluid on any painted part because it'll peel quickly.

If it bothers you, why don't you call the police?

Oh don't worry, I wasn't *that* serious about doing those things...I just tend to feel better if I vent out with SAYING, not DOING, what I really feel like reacting to them. I do realize that a man's (or woman's in your case) pride is his wheels, and you don't f**k with another's vehicle; it's an unwritten rule.

And when I said my own urine, I didn't mean peeing on it directly; I meant bringing a bottle with my urine with me. Still doesn't make it any better or moral :P

Flutter,

Right there with you. Sleep effects health and ability to function, so I feel no qualms about taking it very personally when they do that. I mean, there's a time and a place, and in the middle of a neighborhood with hundreds of sleeping people at 2 AM is not it.

Personally, I've started trying to do something about things like that when I encounter them. I live by myself now, in a complex, so my quality of life here is directly tied to what I do or don't do to try to maintain it.

Unfortunately for me, I live in a small unincorporated gap between two major towns, and the cops stop at the city limits. I had a feeling that might be what you meant by "in just the right place".

It's idiotic though and it makes me really angry; I have a very hard time getting back to sleep after a surge of adrenalin like that. And I fight insomnia off and on. I wish you every success in doing something about it where you live; we should really be one group of people who promotes awareness of this type of issue.

Does not the area in which you live have a sherriff's department?

It's not just guys. Some girls like loud cars/bikes too. Back in the day I had a pro stock mustang with dual glasspacks on it. I loved how it sounded, especially downshifting. I wasn't an as*hole with it, probably, but lots of times when you are driving you just don't think about the sound bothering others. After a while you even get used to the sound so you don't think about anybody hearing it. To some people the sound itself translates into the power of the motor, especially if you have loud pipes and a loping cam.

You would have had a series of unexplained flats if I was living in the same complex.
