Gah another year alone on Thanksgiving due to having to work on that night and my dad lives over 200 miles away. *sigh* this sucks.

I have had a turkey tv dinner and solitude, on the day of the bird.

I'm taking my sister in law to see my oldest brother on Thanksgiving. He's in a nursing home in Amarillo recuperating from having encephalitis as a result of West Nile Virus.

I don't want to eat at the home so I'll drop her off at the home and then I'll go over to a Furr's Cafeteria in Amarillo for to eat.

That's too bad. If you lived closer, I'd send some homemade pizza your way. :)

I remember one Thanksgiving I spent while a grad student at school. Nearly everyone else was gone, either home or to the away football game.

I knew someone else in town for the holiday and so we decided to go find some place to eat lunch together. We drove all over town and finally gave up and ate at the only place we could find that was open -- a fried chicken fast food place.

I think that was the only time I ever ate fried chicken at that particular chain.

At least you're not out with a cold. Never fails with me. Whenever a major holiday comes up, I get sick.

I just spent my whole day studying, running errands, in a videoconference, doing dishes and looking for kitchen tools. All my real obligations, apart from the videoconference, lie with friends about a thousand miles away, and I was forced to push those back three weeks because my folks tend to buy cheap plane tickets without remembering I actually do have a personal life. That also makes nearly a month of flying on my part this year, as a result everything I'm honestly thankful for is in the realm of the technological and the socioeconomic, as opposed to the biological and social. At least I'm in a nice house without bright lights or loud societal noises, so I kind of think we're all missing the point of the celebration a bit.

Also, just perhaps, there's a chance we should be spending our time protesting corporate oil land grabs, if indeed we're truly thankful for the company of all parties in this country.

I'm alone too. But I'm not really bothered by it.

Sorry you are alone.I went to some elderly friends, came home exhausted, and found out that my son carried off my bottle of Applejack.I would have rather stayed home alone, but these people have always been really sweet to me so I felt sort of obligated to make an appearance.
I really was looking forward to a hot mug of cider and a little shot in it.Oh well,I'll drink hot tea instead.

At least I wasn't the only one that was ill over the holiday. One of my housemates just got back from Alabama, where his wife and kids still reside. Turns out they all had sinus infection during the holiday.

According to Ripleys's believe it or not,in Northern Japan the apple farmers use turkeys to guard the crops from monkeys.Maybe that's why they don't gobble them up for the holidays.
I won't have any family here for the rest of the holidays.Son will be out of town on a job.
Weather permitting,I'll most likely just build a fire outside and celebrate the Solstice with some wine and the stars.
