I usually don't get into Christmas at all. I just don't want to do it and wish I could get out of it, but because of the kids I have to. It's always something. Money problems (not just gifts, but bills and food too!) problems with the hubby (drinking too much or not working, or just being a general ass), or plain old depression.

This year I'm getting into it so far. I say "so far" because something could happen at anytime to make me say "f**k it". I decorated the house today with my daughter and had a nice time. I'm going to focus on that. They also know that we probably won't have big gifts this year. Thrift store stuff at best. Unless we get the tax anticipation loan from Block. Otherwise I'll be hooking them up with their Christmas stuff in Feb when we get our refund. It just seems calmer around here this year, so I'm going with it.

I do hate it when it starts before Halloween even though! I'm still not getting a tree till the 21st and it's coming down New Years Day!

I do agree that Christmas starts way to early.

What really bothers me is that dang bell the salvation army person is always ringing in front of most stores. It's like a 1000 needles piercing into my body.

Being Jewish when everybody is in Christmas mode has similarities to the left out feeling of being Autistic in a neurotypical world. I get to feel both yipee!! . At least we get to celebrate New Years twice a year.

Just an observation, no need for a suffering contest, or discussion of privilege, or Holiday Trees vs Christmas Trees etc. Hope all my fellow spectromites get through the season unscathed and even better actually have a good time.

Oh I know. I hate the Christmas season too. Too many big deals and too much excitement. :x :x :x

I think what you are mostly seeing is people trying to make money. Like a two month long commercial.

I love Christmas, but all the commercials and such get annoying very quickly. The same thing happens with Valentine's Day, in many stores before New Year's! :(

Omg I forgot about Valentines too! I'm all for holiday spirit but good grief man give the exposure some intermission or something!
One thing to be happy about after New Years is NO MORE CHRISTMAS COMMERCIALS! Two month long commercial is right.

In the words of the old leftist saying: KILL YOUR TV! Well, not literally, but sell it or get rid of it somehow, and cancel your cable service or sign up for internet-only cable. I got rid of my TV in 2010 and I really don't miss it. Also, try to limit your exposure to triggers like malls. You have to shop for groceries, so maybe shop at Wal Mart where the Christmas junk is out of the way. I hate malls in general, but Christmastime is even worse.

Or just don't watch the tv for the rest of the month. I'm not into Christmas and I can generally just ignore it if I don't have the tv on, then I don't see adverts. They are soooo cheesy too. Ok so when I was little Christmas was as fun as the adverts make out. As a child I was blissfully unaware of all the stress that goes into planning Christmas dinner and getting presents together and now I can appreciate the effort my Grandma or my Aunts went to when they had the whole family over, but as an adult without any kids it just seems like a load of hassle to me.

It actually bothers me because when I watch those hyped up Christmas cheer adverts and I think about how many people had a differnt childhood to me and the amount of people who've told me they don't like Christmas because of family problems and I feel like it's unfair to rub this unrealistic, idealistic dream in their faces.

Turn the TV off.
