The things that have going on here in Random Discussion over the past few days is making me rethink my place on WP. I feel that everybody in this thread wants me to leave WP for good and I know the thread is going to go on for a month and a half after The Olympics.

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt251660.html

I feel the was Mick Avory did when he had to quit The Kinks in the September of 1984. If you all want me to leave and not come back, why don't you just tell me? I've never felt so lonely on WP, except for in the Late August of 2012. I know that the majority of everybody on WP wants me to leave, so I'll just do so.

Here's the last Kinks song Avory played the drums on as a member:

I guess that both the world and WP just aren't made for sensitive souls like the real Mick Avory and myself. They also say history repeats itself every 30 years. We're not any better than NTs, when you all think about it.

I don't want you to go CR. :(

You're like the fixtures and fitting round here.

You're one of the old school, with all of the other old scholars.

You're one of the first people I remember when I first came here.

The place wouldn't be the same without our good old Cockney Rebel.

People are saying that they dislike the Olympic Games, not that they dislike you.
Friends like different things and stay friends. It happens all the time.
I'm sure that your friends here still like you even though their interests may not be identical to yours.

Hello, it is easy to feel unwelcome and unwanted in any community, but especially a big internet one like this. I think a lot of people here probably feel like this at times. I did until I started reaching out for help with something and have been surprised by people’s compassion. Anyway, I know we don’t know each other but I don’t want you to leave. Here’s what I think:

There might be Too Much Monkey Business here and you might wonder, Where Have All the Good Times Gone? Sometimes you might feel, I’m In Disgrace or even, I’m Not Like Everybody Else. But relax, Have a Cuppa Tea! And remember not Ev’rybody’s Gonna Be Happy All Day and All of the NIght. When you’re feeling down, have A Rock N’ Roll Fantasy and go Dancing in the Street on a Sunny Afternoon. Just think to yourself, I’m A Well Respected Man, with a Heart of Gold and soon there will be Better Things.

I hope you get what I did here (I used Kinks Songs to try and give you a nice message!) and why I did it (I wanted to try and make you smile and do something meaningful). I don’t know The Kinks too well so looked all these songs up. I wanted to take the time to do that to try and help you feel welcome and wanted. I hope it works!

I don't know why you feel unwelcome, but I know I don't want you to leave. I like to read your posts.

And...CR deserves a gold medal as a marathon running WP member who has been supportive of others for a long time.

Having read the thread you posted about, they were attacking the Olympics, not you mate. The thread started in a negative attitude towards the competition, and you're seldom going to change people's minds if they're talking about something they truly dislike.

I like seeing your posts too, makes a nice change to see someone who is cheerful and looks for the positive!

Personally, though I disagree violently with Russia's LGBT opression, that isn't the fault of the individual athletes. So I'm watching the games, and am very pleased that Team GB won thier first ever medal on snow this morning in the women's snowboarding slopestyle.

Why not start a thread for folks who LIKE the games instead of playing with the ones who hate it? Just a thought :)

I've read all of your messages and I'd also like to thank you for the song, BabyBird. I'm going to stay. I'm even more like Mick than I thought. When things seem to be going wrong, I tend to run off. I've got to stop running off like that. :D :P

Ah, it never occurred to me that the Olympics thread might be insensitive or hurtful, but I can see how it would come across that way to people who love the Olympics. :(

We should start a thread called "Who here LOVES the Olympics?" so that everyone has a happy place to express their opinions! (And I'm sure you're not the only one – my parents have been watching it nonstop the past couple of days, and are enjoying the heck out of it!)

[EDIT:] I just saw that's already been suggested... My reading comprehension skills are not great this morning! :P

CR: I'm glad you are staying.
I recall 8/2012.
Fun for some is not fun for all.
I haven't posted a single comment on the Olympics because I moved...no more flicker to drive me daft! No more alcoholic either. :)
Yahoo also has a lot of negative headlines about the Olympics. Maybe too many folks are drinking the koolaid? Or perhaps they are spoiled rotten little brats! ;)

You belong here! Like the world clock!
