Having a hard time finding hud approved housing.
I'm kind of depressed. I know I have over two months. One of those just being an extension, but I'm kind of feel discouraged in finding a place in a specific town. This is a rural area, so this plays into it a bit. Anyways, I'm finally ready to move out of my parents' place, but for the past few weeks, my looking has been...well not real fruitless, but I'm still discouraged. I found one place that was a little bit far out of town. When I realized that it was probably best to take it and continue to look to see if something better came along (seeing as it's been told to me how hard it can be to find something), I called back about the place and it was taken. She calls back later and informs me that although she normally doesn't take HUD in a particular place, she had a good feeling about me, having brought my mother to look at one, having no criminal record (She checks these things), and she rents to someone I know. Anyways, she calls me and I look at this other place that is going to be vacated by the end of the month. I liked it and gave her the application. But we had to find out about the housing department as it wasn't really HUD approved. I looked at it Friday. After I found out that I just need to do what I usually would do with HUD, I called back today to check up and... it was gone. Their places don't stay empty long. In fact the person living there is still there for a couple more days, I guess. But someone already took it before they could move in. =/
So, now I realize that HUD won't pay for first month, which has me on edge. Although I will have enough for first month's rent next month, I still need security deposit, which I am told by people that Human Services or the Welfare Office can pay for you. But I am kind of on edge, because of how hard it is to find something. No HUD in many places listed online, etc or they want references from other landlords. But I live with my parents. So I just don't know how to get anything.
This kind of depresses me at the moment. I don't know where else to put this either, so if you see a better forum, can you move it?
When you say you're looking for HUD-approved housing, do you mean that you are looking for a property that accepts Section 8 or Housing Choice Vouchers?
If so, have you checked out pahousingsearch.com or reached out to any organizations in your region that deal with housing? I'm not sure where Shinglehouse is, but here is a website where you can search for housing-related social service organizations by county: http://www.phfa.org/applications/housin ... urces.aspx
I deal with housing at the agency where I work and wish I could be of more help, but, unfortunately, am not familiar with your region of PA. Hope you can find someone local who can help you out!
