My best friend and beloved pet was put to sleep today because of several things. To anyone that has lost a pet.. how do you getthrough it? How do you know if you've done the right thing?

When I was a kid I always wanted a pet, but my parents had different ideas...when they finally allowed me to have a cat I was so happy...so lovely...15 days later he died in front of my house, under the car of a neighbour of mine
I just couldn't stop crying, and in the following 2 months i kept on losing my hair in the back of my head... It was hard, even if I had him only for 15 days, so I can imagine how hard it can be for you.
When you have to face a serious loss, a good advice is trying to handle the memory of the beloved with a playfulness attitude .
Hope you can understand despite my poor english

Thanks for your advice.

What about getting peaceful and happy pictures of her blown up and put on the wall?
Any other ideas?

It depends on your reaction. If they make you smile: fine; if they make you be melancholic: not so fine.

Yeah its a hard choice that has to be made deciding to put a pet to sleep. My poodle
is 20 years old. He is blind, deaf and needs help standing up(hide legs weak). He seems happy still. I do not think he is in major pain. But its been in the back of my mind that he is getting very old and I may have to face the same choice you
had to make in the future. I hope I'm as brave as you are.

Lol. Kind of funny how people jump to conclusions, eh? Anyway, a couple months ago my dad had my 13 year old black labrador dog put to sleep. unfortunately, he was unwilling to inform my family weeks in advance when he very well could have. Then, one day he declares to me that she's dead. I never got a chance to say good bye...

If you want a heart-sickening book that will only serve to heighten your melancholy(yet, I tend to enjoy that state of emotion) then I suggest you read "I'll Always Love You" by Hans Wilhelm. I think it'll help, somehow.

It was difficult for me to deal with losing the rat terrier I had for 18 years.

Both my kitties died within one week of each other. The older one had cancer, and at 13, was put to sleep. The other little guy was only about 4, and he put a few more years life into the older one.

I count my blessings, for they taught me a lot about affection, and even about when to leave someone alone!

Keep the memories close to your heart, and dont fret your loss, because that little kitty has earned her rest, and you are richer for having known her. If she has taken some beauty out of the world, remember that makes what remains all the more precious.

I take PM messages if you want to trade kitty stories.

Oh no. I haven't really recovered from loosing Gopher. I can have as normal a life as someone such as myself can have right now, but I do still think about him every day. We were togethor at such a young age he was like a brother to me. Diabetes took him and he died in his sleep.

I had a dog Max that had to get put to sleep. I've known him since I was born, and I loved him very much. He was a Golden Retriever, and he started to get really sick at 14, so he could barely walk, and he was losing his sight, and his hearing. I couldn't go to the vet with him and my mom because I would have been too upset. Saying goodbye to him was the hardest part. I cried a lot. But eventually I accepted that it was the best for him, and I hope he's in a better place.
