Thank You to all Wrong Planet Members and Participants
Hello,
I would like to extend a sincere and large thank you to many members of Wrong Planet, especially to those in the chat room.
Many months ago (Oct/Nov '06) I was suicidal, and unfortunately it ended in my attempting suicide, and again at a later date also (you'd think I'd have learned the first time! )
Before this happened, I was fortunate and very lucky to have some really wonderful, caring people from here share themselves with me, their ideas on coping, how to handle the emotions and associated self abuse I was participating in. They were warm, giving, accepting, tolerant, empathetic and sensitive to my situation and needs, even though they did not know me.
At the time I was very unwell, seriously depressed and not able to see objectively what was going on, and how spectacularly fortunate I was having all of these wonderful people willing to help me, and try to encourage my well being and self belief.
I was not able to appreciate them or their kindness fully while I was so unwell, as I was not able to see beyond myself.
When I returned, these people were open and forgiving which amazed me and humbled me somewhat (as my manners had definitely taken a vacation before the event! (and also for a while after the event I must admit )).
I wanted to take the time now, since it has passed (and I am able to see more clearly what was going on then), to thank all of the people from Wrong Planet who helped, or tried to help, who were giving of themselves and cared when they did not have to do so.
Thank you, all good people of Wrong Planet, sincerely from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your patience, tolerance, support, help and friendship over the last 7 months or so. Particular thanks to Meg, Mig, Silph, to name but a few of the outstanding people I had the honor of meeting and interacting with.
As it has been said, 'all good things come to pass', it is true.
Relatively sane (emphasis on the 'relatively' ), life is a lot brighter. I still have depression and feel blue at times, yet knowing there are people here to talk to, has made a world of difference.
Also I remember the following things when really down (some may find either of these two suggestions helpful, some may not – if one person does, it was worth sharing);
a) Every moment, second, minute, hour, day, week, month, is an opportunity for change and happiness
b) Everyone you have ever encountered who cared about you in any way in your lifetime so far, has left a permanent positive impression on your heart in some way (even the people you may least expect - for example: (1) like a complete stranger, who may have helped you when you dropped your paper on the sidewalk while shopping and had your hands full, and they picked it up for you, showing you some kindness, (2) or the people in a chat room or forum who cared to listen, respond and care, (3) or that person you met at school or in a bar one time who laughed at your joke and thought you had a great sense of humor). When you feel like you are undeserving of love or acceptance, plain feeling down or having a bad day, remember those times when those people cared for, appreciated and loved you. They knew you were worthy of all great things. If you let all those small, or large sparkling moments from your memory fill your heart and shine through, it may just help get you through the day, moment, hour - knowing and remembering that you are worthy of all good things in this life. Its so easy to forget to be kind to yourself when depressed and unwell.
So THANK YOU to all of you.
I hope everyone else who feels blue, down in the dumps or depressed at any time, is as fortunate as I was, and gains as much welcoming support and care.
High caliber, intelligent, caring, knowledgeable people venture within these virtual walls.
Amazing people in an amazing place.
Oh, and thanks to you Alex for your patience and for creating the site in the first place

you may tire of the world but the world will never tire of you
I'm glad that the place had such a positive impact. I also think this may be the kind of thing I need to hear, because I've been dealing with a lot of really depressed people lately (by which I mean, for years) and it seems like there's not a whole lot of progress in many of them. I kind of think some of them may have killed themselves (they have just dropped out of contact as well, which frankly I'm hoping is all it is.)
