How can I raise awareness of something I believe should be condemned by society when the very act of shining light on the topic makes me look bad for even knowing it exists?

It's hard to say without knowing what it is. Make up a story about how you just happened to find out about it? If it's really that important, a little white lie wouldn't be such a big deal.
