Do you know anybody whom you could trust who just happens to be looking for an apartment?
Also: Don't you live in a college town? Look on the bulleting board. I'm sure some poor student with a crappy job is looking for a roommate to share expenses. Make sure you have a contract in writing, though, when you get the apartment. It would preferable if you paid the rent by check. If you pay by cash, MAKE SURE you get a receipt.
No, I don't know anyone. I don't have any friends here.
And as far as finding a roommate, I've looked mostly on craigslist. Most of them are girls "LOOKING FOR A UNIQUE FEMALE" or something similar. And when I do find one that might work, I'm deterred by the fact that they provide little detail about the place. Also, just the way they write it makes me think they are either unintelligent, or they are putting in no effort to find a decent roommate (some might even be scams, I don't know).
I'll keep looking, I'm just not sure I'll find anything. Maybe I'm getting too hung up on details, but I feel like they should include more than just the rent cost.
