Yesterday I started this thread
http://www.wrongplanet.net/forums/viewt ... p?t=274971
but the description was kind of long, and I wanted to start a new one here where I keep more to the core issue.

The problem is this--I value things a LOT more in retrospect than I do when I'm actually in a position to influence how they turn out. This leads to frequent regrets, which leads to meltdowns, etc. Nearly every one of these could have been avoided had I taken initiative to get what I really wanted--which would have varied in difficulty from just getting off my you-know-what instead of sitting in front of the computer, to looking up possibilities ahead of time to know when opportunities would arise, to simply disregarding my parents or others when they didn't understand what something meant to me.

The problem is, I don't get to the point where I'm like "I'll do this no matter what it takes" until in fact it's impossible to do it no matter what I do, because the chance has passed!!
