I came to because I thought I could connect. But I do not even seem to get along with Aspies because they lose their sh*t because of simple questions or become "triggered" by opinions they disagree with etc. A lot of people here seem to believe in the worst nonsense, are extremely superficial, are ideological fanatics or want to not be treated like a normal person (snowflakes). This was the last straw and I don't think I will ever be able to form any decent relationships beyond the people I already know (and that aint too many).

I had a mentor who went on a forum for genius IQ's. Very quickly, someone brought up the question of whether or not geniuses should have life partners. My friend said, essentially, that he cares as much about women as most people care about dogs.

Pages upon pages followed, where everyone tried to accuse this lone gunman that he had said that women are dogs. When in fact all he meant was he wasn't interested in relationships. (EDIT: Much less relationships with people over the Internet)

Eventually, the people who ran the site went bonkers, made up a bunch of Private Messages that "fit his MO", and banned him. His thoughts were too subtle for people used to using the mental equivalent of a jackhammer to solve every problem. He created his own forum later, one where mods wouldn't interrupt any conversation. The only bans were leveled at spammers. Even trolls were welcome.

I hope you find that second forum, Aniihya.

I hope to find a place that isn't more sensitive than NTs are (many people on this site are extremely sensitive and lack reading comprehension) and I hope I can get along with those people better than on here.

What topics interest you? Or is it a matter of talking to interesting people first, topic second?

I can relate to this. It rarely feels like anyone here wants to have an earnest discussion, or explore other ideas and viewpoints. I've found very few people here I can connect with. The fact I've found some at least has kept me coming back periodically, for now at least.

you gotta be one step ahead: prepared not to be triggered by other people being triggered by you

it does takes a lot of practice. i try to take it as a conscious exercise. if someone is going to decide i'm the bad guy for doing nothing wrong in particular, then, well...

Where on WP does this take place? Topics like this always make me paranoid that I've just missed it completely when it's been right in front of my face. I hope to assume this is all done in the religion/philosophy/politics forum, which I don't even bother to read anymore as there seems to be no religion or philosophy, and pretty much nothing but American politics. Disagreement is fine, but disrespect about disagreement is a bit ick. Maybe autistics just lack the subtle lies everyone else uses to "smooth" things that arise through differences of opinion?

That's WrongPlanet's membership in a nutshell, and it pretty much describes most of the reasons why I have grown weary of posting here over the last 8 years.

OP and Fnord, remember there are people who think your advice is realistic, helpful. Even if someone accuse you of being mean to them when you're just trying to help them, I wish you're not affected too much and just let go and move on.

That's exactly what I and others are doing - we're letting go of WP and moving on. I'm just waiting until I hit 30,000 total posts, that's all.

Why wait, though?

What is the point of discussion if you dont take people seriously? The people here tend to be so extremely sensitive that it is really annoying.

Being super sensitive is annoying behavior, probably a major source of social problems for people who have this trait. But people are free to be sensitive, nothing I can do about it, I just take their too sensitive from my less sensitive perspective comments less seriously than someone else who seems the right amount of sensitive which for each person may be around their own sensitivity level. The truth is people who are too X or too Y are just mismatching my level of X or Y, and they actually seem less sane to me, but that is just to me, they might seem more sane to another person who matches their level of X or Y better, while I seem less sane.
