I recently got a girlfriend. I'm 18 years old and a senior, and she's 15 and a freshman. I'm pretty well-known at school (though I wish I wasn't), so the news has spread like wildfire within 2-3 days. This has caused a lot of underclassmen to feel the liberty to approach me and say "omgwtf? She's 3 years younger than you!" or "PEDOPHILE!" It's mostly freshmen and sophomores who know, but amongst them we're the main subject of gossip. Even my few friends at school are irked by it and talking about it. It's bugging me like it's no tomorrow. I'm getting weird looks, names, everything. I don't care about their stupid opinions, but it's getting SO annoying and I don't know how to deal with it.
First, figure out the legality in your state -- "age of consent", I think it's called.
But, it
is a strange part of American culture that an 18-year-old can't date a 15-year-old. There are, of course, certain biological blocks of years, which can and should cause concern, but you two are both in the same block -- mid-teens. Unfortunately, the fact is that it will continue to be very socially inadvisable for you to continue in such a relationship -- not to say what you should do, but simply to say that you're
not going to win against this particular stigma. Not sure what I'd do in your place, assuming you're on the right side of the law where you live to begin with.
