Hi,
I would like to seek help on this: I would like to do a career change (or at least better opportunities at my field). I work at an R & D in a semiconductor company. The serious problem is that I wanted careers that are truly design intensive. My job only currently focus on integrating stuff, mostly using scripting languages and hardware design work is very minimal. I tried applying other jobs on positions that will do full scale IC design (transistor level), which is innovative by itself. The problem is, I cannot get hired because I lack DIRECT experience, even though I have strong knowledge about it. Some even say while I have inherent design capabilities, I require some training, (they want someone who is just "plug and play").
My ambition is to land a highly innovative job, and to do that I need to prove my worth through research, I tried to do some informal research, but due to time constraints, it's still unfinished, and has no formal advising, unlike in universities. I also tried innovative challenges, but hasn't won or, again, unfinished. Now my fond of endeavor is artificial intelligence/big data, and tried to do some research about it, and again it's taking a long time.
What's going on? Is a career shift this difficult or has high chances of failing at all? I'm also considering taking a master's degree, but the education in our country (Philippines) does not have a reputation on having an innovative culture. Is it okay to do some research informally and seek some reviewers or post them to the internet? or kickstarter and stuff or form groups to help you out? I'm also considering of quitting my job as it looks like I don't have enough time on these endeavours
I've been doing these things and it got me stressed out and disappointed and is currently suffering from depression now. Help, I need an advice on this. Thanks ! !! !
