Hello everyone.

Here is a blog post I made for the Autism Society of America. http://www.autism-society.org/living-with-autism/how-i-learned-to-accept-my-autism-diagnosis/

Did you have trouble accepting your diagnosis? Did you feel bad that other people including your friends were delveloping much faster than you were?

Yes, I've only recently started to accept my diagnosis. I wrote about it on my first post here a few months ago. I was about the same age that you were when you found out. Unfortunately my parents went about it the wrong way, so it wasn't until I was an adult that I understood what it meant to be autistic. I am embarrassed that I still haven't completed college . I know that I am smart, but neurological differences and declining health have thrown up a lot of walls. So it makes me feel inadequate that I am so behind my peers.

Leester - Thanks for sharing your blog post. I particularly liked your comment about WP ("Wrong Planet helped me accept myself and realize that there were people out there like me").

Thanks guys for responses guys. It's been a long 17 years but it's also gone by so fast. Even though i've learned to accept my autism ( not fully yet) I wouldn't be opposed to a cure (if there is one in the future) I don't know if I would accept it or not, I would have to wait and see. If there isn't I'll just have to do the best that I can and hope there are some great services in the near future and hope that I can make the best of them. I'm very happy that I am living in Southern California I think its the best decision that my family made moving out from Wisconsin.
