Yeah: me too!

I hope you feel better--and don't forget to take the antibiotics as prescribed!

At least this is not 1900, where you would have been in really dire straits!

Dude, I truly feel bad for you. Having pneumonia myself was one of the scariest things I've ever went through. I thought I was gonna die at one point. I think I should have been admitted to the hospital but wasn't and that's why it took me so long to get over. It's been over two months now and I still have a bad cough which the pulmonologist thinks could be asthma. I've never had asthma. I have to keep a cough drop in my mouth most of the time. The shortness of breath is what really scared me. I couldn't even talk on the phone because I would get out of breath. I think there's some crap going around because I know too many people who got pneumonia this year. What are your symptoms like?

When I cough something up, it feels like chunks of my lungs are being ripped out.

High temp, nasty cough, zero energy to do anything but surf the net on my phone while listening to Slayer on my iPod speakers.

When I do not have enough concentration to play my XBox, something is seriously wrong.

I coughed constantly and the GP I have wouldn't even give me codeine. What meds are you on?

Just rest up, buddy, and take in the interest people have in you. You're a cool guy.

What did the doctor say about exercise?

Well, my blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol are all within normal levels. I just have to lose about twenty pounds off my belly, and I will be good in that respect.

Yeah, thanks to all of you at Wrong Planet. This helps make it slightly more bearable. Heh.

Codeine cough syrup and antibiotics.

The ER doctor gave me the Z pack for a week and I didn't get better - that antibiotic is the standard for pneumonia. I didn't start feeling better until I was given Levaquin antibiotic. I also received steroids and what also helped was aerosol breathing treatments at home. I was doing albuterol treatments every 4 hrs. Mucinex will also help to keep your secretions thin so you can cough it up. Its an OTC med.

Nurse Angela really is a nurse; she knows what she is saying.

Monitor your reaction to the antibiotic; if you don't get better within a week, tell your doctor, and he will try again with another one. Zithromycin didn't work for Angela, but Levaquin did work.

Thanks for the helpful words.

One of my 12 step friends will provide me with Muxinex, oj and chicken soup later today.

I should be set for the day. Made myself a somewhat comfortable bundle to pass out under on my couch.

Follow doctor's orders and home care (chicken soup, yes!). Also, be aware that it can take a LONG TIME to truly get back to normal after this, so even after you seem better, you probably will find yourself getting tired easily, short of breath, and so on. I'm talking months. And you will want to protect your lungs from cold air, if you live in that kind of climate.

Pneumonia's a bear. People used to die from it all the time. Be glad you live when you do.

Yeah, pneumonia is really nasty. One of my coworkers had it and it took them several months to start feeling like themselves again. Get a lot of rest, get plenty of fluids, and don't tax yourself unless you absolutely have to. You might want to get some of your friends to help with any food shopping you need since you don't want to be outside with that crap in you.
