I am really upset.

I can not believe that there is (as of this post) eighteen pages of posts in the thread about whether the guy who killed all the people at VTech might have been on the spectrum.

It is upsetting for a number of reasons.

People don't seem to understand the difference between psychiatric diagnoses. Anybody who would kill 32 people is, simply, a psychopath. No need to sit and read through the DSM-IVTR - that act alone qualifies one for the psychopathic diagnosis. Psychopathy is a personality disorder.

Autism is a developmental issue. Right now it's categorized as a disorder, although it may one day be recategorized so that it's not even a disorder.

THE TWO ARE NOT RELATED AT ALL. Period.

So Cho was a loner.
That does not make him an aspie or autistic.

There is no other reason that I know of that anybody could possibly be thinking he's on the spectrum. What other behaviors that are part of the autistic spectrum has he shown?

This may sound political, but it's not. The reason I"m upset is mostly because I want others on the spectrum to understand the huge difference between being a loner psychopath that would kill people, and being a loner autistic. It's like comparing apples and oranges - you can't compare them. I really wish people would move off the thread and move on with their lives. The thought that some of us on the spectrum think this guy might share a diagnosis with us, makes me very sad.

That doesn't necessarily mean that they are mutually exclusive, he may have been, I don't know, and I don't really care. That being said, I'm sure I'm going to get more s**t for not having any friends after all of this media s**t about how he was a loner.

I do not think "loner psychopath" is a medical term and its an oxymoron. Psychopaths tend to be very socially skilled manipulative and if need be charming. Like Ted Bundy was a psychopath.

As far as the thread in question I have no problems with it.

It is not only psychopaths who do these things...anyone can be pushed over the edge, whether NT, aspie, Bi polar...the list goes on. And it is a fact that there are cases where aspies have gone on shooting sprees.

I won't want this to go on for 30 pages, but with the right (or wrong) conditions it could get like this. An Aspie is abused for most of his/her life, so doesn't trust anybody. Low social skills means impairment of making relationships and bullying. Knowledge that he/she is different from everybody else leads to self-alienation. All this adds up to total distrust and separation from others, and may lead to being envious of others for a long time, leaving it there to fester and grow until it starts becoming illogical and well, the rest is easy.

A conscious and self-though are great things to have, but if abused, things go awry.

We know too well. Messer Freund did so.

However, I personally think that declaring Cho, or the Columbine killers as Aspies is imbecilic. They were strange weirdo loners who could have done with intensive therapy.....

Sigh.

The point of my post in the haven was NOT to keep debating the issue.

The point was to say how sad it is that we're discussing it at all.

May I respectfully request that this thread be locked? Debaters, there is still an open thread for you.

I think we've all said what we needed to anyway.

On with life!

I know! How about we turn this thread into a gambling post about how many pages before THAT thread dies!

I say...32 pages. KBABZ?

Real quick, in addition to all of this another think that could lead an autisitc to kill is our views on the world. We expect the world to be just at a very young age, we expect everyone to obey rules because we do (for the most part). When someone like this is bullied and picked on for being different, for being a loner, that is very frequently very tramatic.

Yes I seriously want it locked.
I did not intend for a thread in the haven to become an extension of the other.
Thank you for asking.
