I don't know if this is on the right aspect of this forum, and I know I've posted stuff similar to this, but,

Does anyone know of any interesting books that merge economics and linguistics?

Also, does anyone know of a really cool book on China/Chinese culture?

Thank you!

Google is not hard to use and the topic you named is so broad a simple google search would have sufficed. While I am at it, let me take care of the other one too.

As for China and Chinese culture, I can highly recommend China: A History by John Keay. IMO, it is a great book if you are looking for a "single volume" on the subject, but it obviously cannot do into depth with all aspects of a millennia old culture.

I suggest reading it alongside his companion work The History of India, as there is some overlap between the religious traditions of the two countries (due to Buddhism, which spread from India to China in the 1st Century CE).

I am also currently reading The Gateless Gate, which is one of the most famous works (if not the most famous) on Zen Buddhism. It may be too specialized a subject, though.

And it almost goes without saying: The Art of War by Sun Tzu ought to be required reading for anyone interested in Chinese history and culture...

Finally, if you want to know more about communist China (and the disastrous Great Leap Forward), there is no better - or shocking - work than the Yang Jisheng's Magnum Opus: Tombstone: The Great Chinese Famine, 1958-1962.

Amazon links to all the above works:

... as for books merging economics and linguistics... Sorry, no idea...

The book The Gateless Gate, yes I know that one. That's about the Zen Koans, right? I've always wanted to really 'solve' a koan for myself, but I honestly have no idea how to approach it. Compounding it is the fact that I have difficulty concentrating when I'm reading. Are you interested in Zen Buddhism?

I dabble a bit in it, but for me it is more of an amalgamation of concepts from dharmic religions/philosophies that I find useful for me personally.

I decided to read up on the dharmic religions (see my post here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=308212&p=7023636#p7023636), and Zen Buddhism in particular does have an appeal to those with a scientific background because it's philosophy has some similarities with the scientific method...

Oh, and by the way:

Mu.
