When you are overwhelmed, can that cause by having too much anxiety? When you are overwhelmed, do you stay in your apartment or your house? I hate having anxiety, I think I have to get anxiety medicine.

What's causing all this, Kitty?

For me, being overwhelmed does cause anxiety. We have house guests coming from out of state in three weeks and I know I have to clean the house up but I don't know where to start. Anything in particular that's overwhelming you right now?

I would say do the kitchen first. The "visible" parts of the house.

This is an issue with me constantly. I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder in '09, and have been on and off medications for it since. I prefer going the herbal route, though, as it has less side effects. I was on a particular med that was high in serotonin and actually induced rage fits and meltdowns. I was then put on a less severe, small dosing of Buspirone as a "take as needed." I get that prescription filled in extreme emergencies, but mostly rely on chamomile, mint, St. John's wort, and Tulsi (Holy Basil) when I have my anxiety fits.

Being overwhelmed happens a lot with me. Often times it's just overstimulation of noises around me. Too much talking at me or yelling, too much music or chatting, etc. Sometimes it's being given too many tasks to complete in a short amount of time. All of that can cause anxiety for me. My mind races, which leads to unwanted, terrifying thoughts or anxious assumptions.

Did they ever try pregabalin on you? I have found it helps me a lot without bad side effects (just good ones). But I totally get wanting to avoid meds I personally can't take St Johns wort caused me to have a major major breakdown and took an overdose (long time ago). So I avoid that now. But it was probably my fault I was making tea with it and dosage was unknown :S

Nope, never tried pregabalin. My doc was pretty nervous about even putting me on buspirone, so she actually had me taking half the normal dose, and it still knocked me waaaay sky high. (I'm pretty small with a fast metabolism. Don't know if that counts for anything, but her reference to me being, in a way, lightweight when it comes to drugs, had me coming to that conclusion.)

My mom is a total health nut, so I take after her quite a bit in wanting to find natural remedies to things. St. John's wort is hit and miss for me honestly. I can't take much of it and when I do, it gives me big mood swings, so it's only in case I need a tiny dosage of something. At that point it's more of a placebo than it is anything else.

This happens to me too, that why I'm not talking to my dad on the phone anymore, he can be TOO MUCH, he been making me cry on the phone.

If I have too many tasks to do like cleaning, I don't know where to start (I'm slow at doing things) If I have TOOOOOO MANY stuff & less storage space, I can have a panic attrack.

I know what you mean, Kitty.

My wife has too much stuff, too.

When we clean up, I have panic attacks.

It's normal what you're feeling, Kitty.

You loved your mother very much. And she loved you, too.

These are feelings which will come up sometimes.

And it happens to all persons, not just "people like us."
