Hi,

I'm Jack, I have Asperger's, and after a life of ups and downs, I seem to have fallen into depression. Asperger's can easily make life difficult in a hundred different ways. It certainly has for me. So I was wondering, is there anyone who has gone through or is going through something similar?

I guess I'm just looking to talk with people who understand what I'm going through at the moment. There seem to be precious few of them around. I'm interested to hear your responses.

Talk to you soon,
Jack

I've certainly had my share of depression so I can relate. I don't think mine had anything to do with my AS, it was caused by a chemical imbalance which antidepressants took care of though. I've taken them several times and after a while I no longer needed them. If you think yours could be caused by that I'd really suggest you give them a try, they can do wonders. Of course some depression is situational and won't really be helped by them, and in those cases talking to someone and figuring out a strategy to improve the situation can help.

Also, almost everyone's life is full of ups and downs, so don't feel like you're alone there. People naturally look for something to blame for it and there is always something to pin it on,but to be honest that's just the nature of life. It's going to always be like that, but hopefully the good times make the bad times bearable.

Good luck either way.

(Disclaimer: my second paragraph was not in any way an attempt to say your perception is wrong and I was not trying to correct how you think about it. It seems that some people here find it offensive to say things to comfort others and feel it invalidates them and possible makes them powerless feeling. I just wanted to make sure you know I'm not doing that, I was only sharing my experiences with depression)

Hi Jack 184. Do you think your depression is based on your situation or is it organic? (Brain chemistry). How lucky nag has it been good night on?

after a lifetime [first 4 decades] of nothing but failure, i'd had a belly full and was just about ready to take a long walk off a short pier. I sought psychiatric help at that time. since then it has been a long journey of re-discovery and re-thinking past assumptions [presumptions?]. it is a continuing journey of self-love.

I'm so sorry, I don't know what kind of auto check formed that last weird sentence in my last post.

Hi everyone, and thanks for the replies.

It makes me feel a little better to know I'm not the only one out there who's dealing with this. It seems like you're all wondering if my depression is chemical or situational. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. If you asked me why I was depressed, I would be able to mention stuff I've been dealing with for years, sometimes my whole life. It makes me wonder if I've had depression my whole life as well. I don't think so, but maybe it's been dysthymia or something like that.

^^^prego :) I had dysthymia also, amenable with a mild tricyclic or with [prescription] speed.
