I just feel so bored. I can chase after goals but those goals feel abstract. Achieve one goal and choose another. Complete that one too and choose another. When does it ever end?

Should I live to pursue happiness? That chemical cocktail that served to keep our prehistoric ancestors alive and procreating on the Savanna?

I could get those same chemical highs from drugs but that would be pointless. The natural high seems no less pointless. Just another way to raise dopamines like a rat in an experiment.

To quote Captain Kirk my life feels episodic. Is there no further purpose beyond these Daily routines? Many make there own meanings in life but how can I know those meanings are true and not merely made up lies from sad people seeking comfort in their self delusions?

To me, the point has always been to do the best you can.

I don't believe in any gods, so I don't have the reward of an afterlife like a carrot hanging over my head.

Because to me, there really isn't a point to life. There's no cosmic reason why any of us are here. We just are. We're here because we were born. And we'll live and then we'll die. So there's that inbetween space to do something with.

I don't have kids because I never wanted them. So I chose to fill my time by going to school and learning. I got a degree, got a fairly decent job, I read books, and I exercise. Those are my main hobbies/distractions. And yeah, you keep choosing goals, new interests, and so forth.

That's basically it. Unless you believe in some higher power or something. Then that's different. But yeah, life is just sort of a series of fillers and marking time.

It's a question I've been grappling with myself in the last few weeks, and there doesn't appear to be a universal answer so most people do whatever gives them personal meaning and purpose, I suppose.

For me, it's putting my best talents to use, spending time with those who mean a lot to me and being surrounded by what I enjoy doing. I've been deprived of some of those things recently which probably led me to thinking what the hell are we all doing here.

I guess the best answer that I can think of is to be true to yourself, it's probably one of the most universally agreeable answers possible

There is no point, no purpose.
And I dont mean this in a depressing way.
It can be very liberating to realise there is nothing you can do to make yourself other than what you are.
Seeking purpose is another way of trying to escape from accepting yourself 'as is'.
You are dissatisfied, so you think you need something to 'make yourself better'.
The truth is, you can't make yourself better because there is nothing wrong with you.
YOU are the one telling yourself there are things wrong with you.
You need to stop doing that.

If there's nothing wrong with me why aren't I happy?

The point of life is to provide meaning and purpose for the lives of others. Listen when they speak, answer when they ask, accept when they offer...and thus do our own lives have meaning and purpose.

I howl like a wolf on the subways.

There definitely is a point to life. It is to enjoy one's self.

Don't the other commuters find that a bit strange?

In a way, the point of life is to figure out the point of life - and the answer is different for each of us. If you haven't found your answer yet, keep looking!

Because you don't believe there's nothing wrong with you.

There is no obligation to be happy. Sure, it's better to be happy, and I certainly would like to be happy, but in the end it can be better for some to not make it a obligation like society want us to and find some other point of meaning to existence.

Yeah but I still want to be happy.

I often have mood swings. I'll be really happy for no reason and then really sad for no reason.

You sure you're not bi-polar?

Seriously, NO ONE is happy all the time. That just doesn't happen. Or if they are, they're faking it, intentionally being cheerful and perky.

Conversely no one is depressed all the time either - unless they have clinical depression. Which is possible.

But no one is happy all the time, not even well adjusted people without any mental illness.
