Sensory issues at my job.
Once a week, a guy comes over to clean up the office I work in. This involves vacuuming for over an hour. And he also has some incredibly loud tics on top of that. I am not upset with him..... But a couple of minutes of those two factors combined brings me into complete sensory overload rapidly, and my agitation levels go beyond the realms of the galaxy.
This is problematic, as every Thursday I find myself struggling to not go into full blown sensory meltdown mode. And I do not want to bug my boss about this, since I have work that needs to get done. And a part of my job is supervising the janitor.
I am open to suggestions here.
Would you be able to wear ear plugs or listen to music during this one hour period? Or is it possible for you to work elsewhere for that hour, come in later that day to avoid it?
If your boss is aware of your autism/sensory difficulties and is not a jackass talk to them and explain. Whilst you write that you don't want to bother your boss trust me they will be used to being bothered and a 5 minute conversation with them possibly being put out is surely far far better then you being in sensory hell each week. Your needs are important and you need to ensure they are being met. If you enjoy the rest of your job it would be a shame to allow this one hour a week to ruin the rest of it.
