I was advised that if I need to get my feelings, I should write all down in a journal. How is that a replacement for talking to people and getting answers? Written words don't talk (except maybe in Harry Potter).

It isn't a replacement for talking to other people, but it can facilitate thinking and getting answers from yourself. It doesn't feel the same as talking to others about how you feel, but a journal can still be an effective method for getting it out and articulated, which in my experience can be very helpful and cathartic. It probably isn't for everyone but you may not know if it's for you until you try it (if you haven't already). It does come with certain benefits, like people not being able to react negatively to what you say, and no time limit - you can articulate something completely and to your satisfaction.

I only like to express my feelings if other people can hear/read them. So I don't write things down in a journal, and if I did I'd want people to read it.

This site is my journal.
