now, i do have 7 beers in the fridge that are very cold and probably taste wonderful. but its too expencive, its like buying a pack of cigerettes everyday. so im going to be writing how many days ive gone withought drinking, naturally this will be day 1 hopefully tomorrow will be day 2.

if anyone has ever quit drinking on there own maybe we could share ideas? no AA meeting please, the whole group thing isnt for me.

ive been addicted to almost every drug known to man, and alcohol is defintly by far the toughest to quit.

I'm hoping this works for you. My dad got sober and stayed that way for 8 months. But he's drinking again. =/

Heres what you do, visit an old folks home near you, volunteer to spend time with residents there.

I currently intern at one of these places... They call them "Assisted living communities" or something like that. Alcohol is one of the major risk factors for ending up in a place like that. So is smoking. Most of the people that live in these places have unusual conditions that no one really knows why we get, but alcohol, and smoking is believed to be the primary reasons. Some of these conditions are downright scary.

See some contractures, I know a guy whose hand is permanently doing the metal symbol. He says its very painful. Then theres people that regularly need dialysis, can't feed themselves, are completely incontinent. Its a scary thing, does alcohol cause any of these things? well all of the doctors and nurses I've asked told me, we don't know, but some believe so. What we do know is that cartain fetishes such as fisting or shoving gerbals up your butt can cause these conditions.

Good luck with that...your liver will thank you for it.
Got any plans on what to do when you get the urge to drink again?

That sounds a good idea actually...or pursue a hobby that keeps you totally occupied.

Me thinks I need to cut back or quit myself. I used to loathe alcohol until I found Gallo wine. Since quitting my job, I'm up to drinking at least a fifth a day if not more. I figure that rounds off around 45-50 dollars a week at this rate. And between my wife and I buying 2 cartons of cigs a week this can't be a steady thing. Wish I could though. Isn't that pathetic?

Alcohol is just too easy to come by. That's why it's so hard. Definitely don't think it'll be as hard to cut back/quit as cigs though.

Feeling compelled to post these lyrics to an Elliott Smith song. "Between the Bars"

Drink up baby, stay up all night
With the things you could do
You won't but you might
The potential you'll be that you'll never see
The promises you'll only make
Drink up with me now
And forget all about the pressure of days
Do what I say and I'll make you okay
And drive them away
The images stuck in your head

The people you you've been before
That you don't want around around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

Drink up baby, look at the stars
I'll kiss you again between the bars
Where I'm seeing you there with your hands in the air
Waiting to finally be caught
Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine
Keep you apart, deep in my heart
Separate from the rest, where I like you the best
And keep the things you forgot

The people you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

Good luck, Richard! I'll join you. I've only had 2 cups of tea tonight.

I think it will be harder for you to abstain, so I'll add snacking.

Don't drink alcoholic in the next 24 hours and I'll avoid alcohol and snacks. Okay!
