My family found out that there is a support group for adults with aspergers near where I live and they're encouraging me to attend. I'm not opposed to the idea but I'm a little confused as to what they expect to happen. What exactly do people go to these support groups for and what should I hope to get out of it?

How long is a piece of string?

Depends entirely on the group dynamics and the setup. Some are very welcoming, others are not.

I mostly found them a bit of a waste of time, though I met some people I liked.

I visit support group for aspies.

When I was younger, I didn't know about AS. I didn't meet in my environment people like me and I thinked I am alone with my problems. For me it is good to meet other people, who have similar problems. And too I don't feel between other people with AS so weird as when I am between NT people.

I can talk there about my problems and other people too. You can try it once and then decide, if you will go there.
