This is very disturbing. Like something out of a horror movie. I woke up last night around 12 and saw the dark silouette of a girl at the foot of my bed. I squealed in terror and hid under my blankets for like 2 seconds. When I looked again the figure was gone.

So yeah this was totaly random and unexpected. Havent been watching any horror movies. Infact Ive been watching funny things on youtue. So I dont know where this came from. Was I dreaming awake, or was it a ghost? I seemed pretty awake when it happened so... but ghosts are see through, this silouette wasnt.

What the hell was that. Is it the medication Im on? Is it because they lowered my medication? Ive never experienced anything disturbing like that before I was medicated. I dont want to tell my psychiatrist because Im scared he will up the dosage. This medication makes me fat and I would like to get off of it someday. As long as these disturbing things dont interfere with my day to day life I should be fine. I dont think this will happen again anyway. Hopefully not because it was creepy.

I think it was a ghost. :pale: I live in a big old victorian building.

It sounds like you might have experienced a "waking dream."

That's my impression. Similar things have happened to me during "waking dreams."

Sarahsmith,

You did mention in a previous thread that you sometimes talk to spirits. Maybe this has something to do with that? I don't really believe in such things myself; I think kraftiekortie's explanation sounds more likely. But if you believe in the ethereal like you've said, then you should consider that you may have caused this somehow.

That is so creepy! I was hoping everyone would just tell me I was dreaming awake. I have considered that maybe I caused it because of spirit channelig.

I wasnt dreaming before I woke up.

A hypnopompic state brought on by medication ?

Drats. I want to sleep with the light on, but I read that artificial light at night is linked to breast cancer. There are so many creepy shadows in the dark!

I wish you had a night light.

I don't think lights are linked to breast cancer. They used to think that using cell phones was linked to cancer.

Well, if you had a gun at hand, you could at least have shot the ghost.

Oh, and if you happened to shoot a real person by accident, at least you’d be giving the ghost some company! Won’t anyone think of those poor, lonely ghosts wandering the Earth?

Whatever the cause, this is a somewhat common phenomenon. Lots of people experience it. Look it up, you'll see a lot written about it. Basically it seems to be a crossover between dreaming and a harmless hallucination that anyone can experience.

Do you live in an old house? Just curious (like if it were 19th century house that had residents who died in childhood of diseases then she might be a ghost of one of those previous residents).

Even if she were real, as a famous rapper once said, "no ghost ever pulled a knife on me, nor ever tried to lift my wallet", so she is nothing to be afraid of (corporal hoodlums on the daylight streets are more dangerous than noncorporal entities in your house even if they really exist). But she is probably just a waking dream.

She said at the end of the post she lives in a big old Victorian building.

And I have the same opinion as the rapper. People are a lot more dangerous than ghosts. I don't necessarily believe in the paranormal, but I find it very interesting and I have read about ghost sightings. 90% of the time people report just seeing some figure, rather than the figure doing anything.
