Apparently all poor people are suppose to live in a mud hut and sleep on a straw bed and never have anything nice, and if people offer off us nice things we should refuse cause such things are above us poor people. All we are allowed to do is wallow in our own s**t and self pity until we can manage to pull ourselves up with our non existence boot straps (since boots are too nice for us)

Hey Sly, what does this mean when you say "they freak out if you have anything nice"? What are some people who said that?

I seen you post things before that are actually conservative-sounding. But, nobody has to call themselves just one or the other I guess.

Other side note: I personally think that even though I agree with a lot of conservative ideas, I guess I'm saying that it's not all rainbows and roses or not what it's "cut out to be" if I make sense. There are plenty of liberals who are at the top of society and have "nice" things. I've even had dreams many times about being in movies or TV, but there you have 90% who are very much liberal and very few conservatives. I could be envious of liberals in that way.

I own electronics. I have a iPad and iPhone. So I get flak for it a lot. I’ve actually managed to save some money for the next phone so it won’t all be bought by my sister.

Conservatives like if your poor you shouldn’t have a iphone, PS4, tv, you shouldn’t buy games, you shouldn’t have a savings fund. Etc poor people who have anything nice at all from clothes to electronics get flake and called scam artists. Conservatives seem to think all poor people are homelsss people(who they hate and fight to pushe outside the city or arrest)
I have to go on food stamps again so I’m not looking forward to the judgments and mean words every time I buy food again

i think the message is simply "don't spend money on relative luxuries like electronics and expensive clothes if you can't afford basics like food and bills".


prioritize, basically. and STOP taking anyone seriously who says you don't need a savings fund, wtf?

So any extra money I get I should go down and give it to the government? Or maybe I should just burn it.

They say everyone needs saving,s but if poor people hav any savings they aren’t poor anymore.
I work and I want to spend my money however I want. Disability doesn’t care how I spend my extra money or tax returns why do conservatives. My phones I get as gifts. I saved and bought a PS4 and tv. But conservatives think I shouldn’t have any if it.

I've been working & studying for 7 years on all kinds of technology. It pays almost nothing. No one cares about living wages at all anymore.

1.) Conservatives don't make you feel like anything. Your thoughts about conservatives make you feel like crap.

2.) I pay attention to a lot of US politics news & nowhere in there have I seen a conservative say that all poor people are supposed to live in a mud hut and sleep on a straw bed and never have anything nice. What's your source for this? Maybe I missed a recent Paul Ryan speech.

Have you ever been to a region of the world where people live in mud huts? Personally, I have not, but my immediate family members have and from their stories, people are generally happy & healthy and all smiles all the time - especially if they have their staples of chicken & rice to eat. (Dominican Republic, right next door to Haiti - approx the poorest nation on Earth.) In part it's because these people live in very Sunny climates and get plenty of vitamin D, but it's also because they know that happiness comes from within, not financial wealth nor material possessions. On that note, most of the people I know with the most financial wealth all have the same thing in common: Very, very, few material possessions. They don't buy things in an attempt to make themselves happy. They're already happy because they're healthy & that's all they need. Living in a fancy house & surrounding yourself with expensive luxury items does not make people happy. That's a fallacy. If it were true, we wouldn't have so many celebrity suicides.

Thanks for the reminder about super cool little beach huts - I look forward to the day I can vacation somewhere & either sleep under my inflated surf kite or rent one of these little beauties from a local builder who's ardently crafted a little tourist hut on the beach.

Who said that in what context? If you're quoting someone, please say who it is & provide a link to the quote in an article/video/audio so we can understand who these terrible conservative people are.

Your money, your decisions. The only judgement I pass on very poor people with limited financial resources is their priorities. iPad/iPhone etc are luxury items that one should buy for themselves when their other Needs are provided for, like healthy food in order to have a healthy mind and body. You've said your food budget is $18/week. The nutrition that provides is not likely good enough to heal you nor keep you healthy if you are healthy. Your food budget could be significantly higher if you didn't spend, let's say, ~$1000/year on luxury technology items. It could be more than doubled to $40/week, and you'd be healthier and happier for it.

Yes, I have an iPhone and a Macbook. The phone is a 6+ with a smashed screen that I got for free when my materialistic brother's materialistic girlfriend upgraded her phone. The Macbook is an old aluminum bodied one a friend gave me for free instead of recycling it. Poor people can still obtain and utilize high technology items without sacrificing their health to do it.

This, IMO, is a justified way of being judgemental towards very poor peoples' financial habits. I'd much prefer that very poor people learned to manage their limited finances better so that they can enjoy modern conveniences And have enough money for healthier food. I know, if they could manage money better they probably wouldn't be so poor in the first place.. but still, there's always room for improvement & learning. I wish you luck in managing your funds better, and also, anyone who judges your financial priorities without justification and an attempt to try to teach you how to do better for yourself is just being a jerk and should stfu. But if they're offering you helpful information in the process, it'd benefit you to listen and learn.

Who says you should give it to the government?

You should give it to the farmer, whether directly at a farmer's market, or indirectly at the grocery store. Spend your money on healthier food instead of luxury electronics and you'll be a whole lot happier in the long run.

Also true. I've made below average money for almost all of the hours of work I've put in over the last 5 years & the only reason I have any money is because I didn't spend any. I drove around in a $700 car until it died after 13 months. Then a $1100 car for another year. I buy most of my clothes at a local thrift store for about $150/year. I drink black coffee and water. My diet is pretty healthy, but as inexpensive as possible. I'll eventually earn more money than I do, but it's good saving habits that will take me further financially than earning capacity. There are plenty of people who make 2+ times what I do and have debt instead of savings - most people, in fact. It's learning not to spend money & to save and invest it instead that'll build wealth for people like us who are paid less than the average worker bee.

I remember when Sly got flack from several members because he had a new iPhone.If I remember right, his sister got it for him on her plan.I felt like people were trying to shame him for having something nice.
I got where he was coming from, my family helps me put in the same way,we are lucky to have them.

One of the few good things in my life.
