I read a really old post saying that most aspies don't realize how much light overstimulates them, and that he wore sunglasses literally all the time except at night. What do you all think of this? Would it help?

I don't have to but I like to wear them when I can because it takes the edge off of eye contact. I have the nerdy kind that clip onto my glasses and I can flip them up out of the way when I go in a store or something. And if I have a situation where I spot someone I know before they see me, I can flip them down for more anonymity.

I wear shades all the time. I've got lots of different tinted lenses from dark smoke to light blue. About 10$ a pair.

My daughter and I are both autistic. I like lots of light. I selected a flat with a lot of southern exposure. I have some sunglasses for driving, but seldom use them. My daughter wears a pair of sunglasses all the time and sometimes a second pair OVER the first pair (double sunglasses).

If you have met one Aspie ... you have met one Aspie. We're all different.

Not all the time, but if a day is a little bit brighter than what's comfortable for me then sunglasses are appreciated. Sometimes I've forgot to carry them and it affected my mood during that day. Too bright a light can be annoying for me because of headaches or can make it hard to concentrate. It also depends on how I'm dealing emotionally, if I'm not that alright my sensitivity towards light increases.

I've been considering this a lot lately. Light definitely overstimulates, and sometimes it's easier to see that when you remove it. My muscles will relax if I turn the lights off. I'd love having sunglasses all the time, but I need to get a prescription pair.

Adam--just another thing I thought of. Do you look at many websites that have busy layouts? So many sites now, like news sites, will have so many ads, videos, sidebars, etc. on the page. That definitely wears me out. That may be something to consider.

I wear them 100% outside. I have a pair of photocromatic ones too that adjust to lower light settings for overcast or cloudy days.

Not all the time, no.

But when I'm outdoors, during the day, I have a pair of clip-ons that I wear as often as possible. I really am blind without them.

It might be part ASD, part Sjogren's.

I've adjusted the lighting in my house. Saves on the electric bill! It has gone from almost $70 a month to under $40 a month!

I wear sunglasses most of the time, especially in supermarkets or any building with fluorescent lighting.

I also ask if people would turn the lights off if it is a sunny day and the room can be light without the overhead lights.

Like, Ezzy, I have tried lots of different ones from the internet.

I also have special prescription reading glasses with a purple tint which was done via a colourmetry test. These are expensive so I could only afford one pair - I would have liked everyday glasses for walking around.

I use low voltage bulbs indoors, including a salt lamp which has a lovely orange glow. I also cover lamps with coloured cloth to get the right kind of light for reading. It is trial and error.

Yes they are for Irlens syndrome.

I just wish we could get them on the NHS :(

That's the only thing stopping me getting a diagnosis - cost

I buy the cheap £1 sunglasses on ebay and have tried many colours.

If you don't like them, you can always pass them on to someone else as a gift.

I do well with purples, reds, pinks.

Today I bought a cheap pair of welders glasses because they had side shields. Side light also affects me. I am going to give them a try out . I need blinkers like a horse.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to try it out to see how it affects you
