My husband got a letter last month they were cutting his Medicaid due to his immigration status. He's a Permanent Resident aka he has a Green Card. We went to human services and they copied his card and everything. We then got the same letter again. Now it's too late, I went to the pharmacy and I couldn't get his meds because his health insurance was gone!

Today I had to go to the dentist. I was prescribed ibuprofen... At the same time I was trying to get the pain meds I was prescribed... I'm in some sort of insurance gap when it comes to meds during the month of September! My meds during this month will have no coverage at all. Had to walk out of the pharmacy without both of our meds!! !

Bad quote here because we both have serious medical conditions. Well both be in deep trouble without our meds.

Since Medicaid is a combined state-federal program, find out who your local state legislator is and ask that individual for their help with the state Medicaid agencies.

This is unfortunate and serious, but take a few deep breaths and resolve to deal with it in the morning.

The last time you had a "crisis" over your medication, it did get ironed out somehow.

First thing after the office opens, you need to be on the phone with whatever agency manages your meds. Point out that this is an emergency.

Hope this works out - hugs to you.

Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) is an over-the-counter medicine. That medicine should not be terribly expensive. I don't know about the other one since you didn't name it.

I am on such a limited income that I didn't want to pay the eight dollars... What an I going to do about my husbands insulin or my bipolar meds? Those are extremely expensive and imagine where we would end up without them

I had a huge meltdown over this for nothing.

I went to DHS this morning and the cutting of my husbands Medicaid was a mistake and he'll have it back tomorrow.

Then I got a letter in the mail saying my medical coverage after all was supposed to have started already. I took the letter to the pharmacy and they straightened it out and gave me my meds copay free like it's supposed to be.

Congratulations! Always ask for a review whenever benefits are terminated. I had a similar thing happen to me, and learned that requesting a review maintained most of my benefits for three months until SSA was required by a superior agency to reestablish my benefits. Getting the lesser agencies onboard was trickier, but ultimately resolved.

OK, let me remind you that these "crises" that come up, a lot of times can be straightened out with a phone call or two... so when you find yourself panicking and freaking out, try to remember to calm yourself.

I worry that letting your whole body go into a fight-or-flight mode over these little bureaucratic snafus is harmful to your health - as well as unpleasant for you.

What can you do when you feel a meltdown coming on?

I talk to my counselor/caseworker tomorrow and I'll for sure go over this. This is happened all my life, I think everything is a crisis. Then I meltdown over it because I always assume the most horrible thing will happen. It's not good living this way...

I would have felt the same way over losing access to critical medication. It would be a crisis for sure. I do try to stay calm if the situation is still up in the air and remind myself there is stressing over it wont change anything until I know the situation. In this case I wouldn't have just automatically assumed that Medcaid was lying to me.

I'm glad it worked out for you.
