I don't know where to start with this to be honest, but here goes:

It's already the 3rd week of September and my math and chem grades are slipping and I hate myself for it. Even if there is a small safety net for having said quizzes/tests dropped. But I can't help but feel that you're meant to fail in STEM classes in order to pass. But enough of that since we have bigger priorities to settle in.

Just last week my math prof had to take me to the counseling office because of how she saw that I've been overworking myself to the point that I stay up until 2 or 3am in the morning. Damn classes are just hard with annoying assignments and quizzes. In fact, because of last week, I couldn't take the quiz because of that incident so I took it today and I'm pretty sure I failed, even though I could make corrections on it or whatever to earn back half of my points.

Honestly, the only reason why everything up to this point happened is because I emailed my math prof on how hard the summer was but only briefly so that I wouldn't be too open about it since I have to reserve myself to keep the teacher-student dynamic at hand or whatever.

But I think besides all that is just how depressed I've been. I haven't spoken to my parents over the phone (besides texting today) in over a week and I feel like my dad doesn't give a s**t about me anymore. Honestly, I'm not sure what to say about all this. School just feels like it's taking over my life. There's not enough fun anymore. In addition, I struggle to find interests and expand upon them because I'm constantly working; constantly trying to keep on my toes because my parents can't give s**t to help me. What's also worse is how my roommate managed to make more friends in his first semester than I did my whole year.

I can't think of anything else to type tbh. I'll come back to this later when I find out more. Honestly, I'm sick of always taking the initiative with things. I don't know what to say anymore. Ask me questions, users. Tell me what I like or don't like to get things running. I'm running out of ideas on what to say.

Try eating a tablespoon of raw coconut oil. You'll be amazed at how good it makes you feel. You soon get used to the taste too, it's quite sweet.

At the college that I went to , UCSD, the instructor had no method of knowing if students stayed up til 3am doing homework

The instructors could refer students to counseling

But can't make them go

Unless, mandated reporter violation

I am curious what your counselor told you

You don't have to tell me

Counselors sometimes act like they know a lot more than they do

But sometimes they make correct insightful statements

If that counselor did not seem  helpful   , if you want go to a different counselor

But counseling is not for everyone

College is not for everyone

From what you have described, Indominus, it sounds like the demands on you are exceeding your ability to cope with them. You should have two points of contact to handle your situation. One is a mental health counselor, and the other is an academic advisor. See the same academic advisor every time and let them know of your struggles. Also see the mental health counselor regularly.

It sounds like you have both some depression and some difficulty with the STEM coursework. Maybe STEM is not for you, but that doesn't itself mean that college is not for you. This far into your semester, you might want to shift into some easy courses that allow you the energy to take better care of yourself. It's even possible you need some remedial classes to catch up to the level other students are at in science and math. Anyway, you are going to be better served by academic and mental health counselors than strangers on an online forum.

Your parents probably are more concerned than you give them credit for - although I can't say that for a certainty. It may be something you can discuss with your mental health counselor.

Good luck. I do understand that you are struggling, and I hope you can care for yourself, no matter what direction things go.

Take fewer units

Ask the instructors if the school offers tutoring

Change majors

Get a psychiatrist

Study group

STEM is not for everyone

College is not for everyone

Counseling is not for everyone

Medication is not for everyone
