My wound is a gift from genetic and environmental factors that warped my mind.

Anxiety is a kind of hell.

I keep running into it, for example -

the Wound-Gift Concept,
which is the notion that a
major opportunity lies within our biggest personal challenge.

as a heavily damaged person, i can totally say its not a f*****g gift (no offence claradoon). turning point in life, usually yes. question - turning where... i mean, the idea of a poll on itself is quite smart, and the options are well varied. but the original quote is kinda messed up in logics, imo. please note that i had no intention to upset u with this response (but i just had one of my wounds re-opened right now, so i might be too edgy, im sorry if it is so)

Actually, I agree with you totally. It's just that I keep running into this kind of thing and I wanted to know if real people agree or is it some kind of psych nonsense. I was hard put to find any positive answers to put in the poll.

"Your wound is your gift" is a phrase taken to be an aphorism, but aphorisms don't capture the complexity of the real world. It can be used by anyone to banish any wounding from any wounder that they'd rather re-narrate or not acknowledge at all. It can help people come to terms with a trauma but it can also be wielded like a weapon by sociopaths who don't want to be distracted from their manifest destiny.

And in a world where a person is supposed to see a therapist for their issues instead of being supported by friends and family I'd say sociopathy is winning. Out of sight out of mind.

If there's one constant throughout human history it's that those on the path of manifest destiny with the power to do so will continuously create whatever narrative is necessary to support it. Complainers are a threat to that so they get them to swallow narratives too.

Okay, I can see two settings where you might hear something like that.

1. Spiritual or religious setting. It can be a stimulus to creativity in growing spiritually, to stop seeing oneself as a victim but rather find something positive that you can take from it, such as being more empathetic to others. That MAY be a valid use of the aphorism - if the learner chooses to accept it freely, and it's not shoved down their throat.

2. Therapy setting - I don't think that kind of remark has any place in therapy. It really feels like gaslighting, to me. So many people need therapeutic assistance in overcoming denial that they WERE wounded, that to make wounding sound like a blessing is really perverted.

Unfortunately, sometimes therapists drag a religious belief into their counseling, which makes me shudder. I'd stay away from that kind.

I'm just saying if someone really believes wounds are a gift, they're welcome to all of mine.
