I know this statement I’m making now has probably already been said a million times and a million ways before by countless other Aspies and autistics, but it is the statement that I feel most accurately describes how I feel (no pun intended) in life much to most of the time. The reasons are far too numerous and extensive for me to name, list, and describe them all, but it’s just the way I feel.

I hear you. But then again I always think of worse things to have, so it doesn't seem quite so bad. But it still really sucks at times.

I'd say just over half of my life has been a living hell, the other half was bearable and even pleasurable at times. I'm back in hell now though and I can't see a way out this time. I think my only option might be meds, a route I didn't want to go down. Getting myself to the doctors is another matter though.

When life is too much for me, I always return to the mantra: Simplify, simplify, simply. A variant is: Less is more.

A lot of things we feel we ought to be doing are in fact optional. This also includes a lot of the things other people want us to be doing.

Really it's all about perception. Developing a personal philosophy of life - that fits one's own lived experience, and that makes sense to oneself - can be a very supportive tool.

Yes, it certainly is. I hope that at least you're not in high school with AS.

(Are you?)

I went through high school without even knowing what AS was. Compared to that, my current situation is like being merely on the farthest fringes of Purgatory.

What is depressing is that not enough people really understand aspergers. Which is a huge factor in why we have the struggles we have.

Oh, and for me, falling in love with a girl whom I haven't been able to see in 3 months and counting just because her parents are another one of those people that don't understand us.

For those that complain AS is a living hell, why don't you do something about it? :?

I am quite happy. I have certainly had periods of time when things were hellish. I never knew I was aspie until about a year ago. I am pleased about that because all the weird stuff in my life now makes sense. I don't think life has to be like hell for aspies.

I have. Life was a "living Hell", but only through high school. I made improvements after then. While life is not exactly "Heaven", it is far from being hellish.

Some days are better than others, and some are worse. I try to make the best of it.

So life is mostly good, most of the time! :D

There is nothing I can do about it; that's why it's hell.

I agree with Mr Goldfish; although AS is a lifelong condition, it CAN be overcome to an extent. In adolescence I was so shy that I would go days at school without saying a single word - I'm now confident and even rather loud in social situations. I also overcame my obsession with cleanliness dating to the same period. While once incapable of empathy, I'm now hyper-empathetic. There are other examples, too. AS can never be cured (and I wouldn't want to cure it, as there are aspects of it I quite like) but the most distressing aspects of AS CAN be overcome.

I don't believe that. (Because there is something I can do about my AS, thus I believe there is something others can't do about theirs.)

Why do you believe that?
