Today I was at my mum's place with the family, and when my aunt and cousin were leaving, we all got up and went to the gate to see them off. We stood talking for a few minutes, and on the other side of our fence is a big lawn, full of dandelions. Me and my brother were actually talking about dandelions earlier and I had said that I wanted to blow one so that all the white things float off like fairies, as I haven't done that in years. So while we were all standing there, my brother was like, "there's loads of dandelions out here", and I really felt like blowing one, so I did. But just as I was blowing one, 2 people walked past, the white bits flowing in their faces. They didn't react, but they probably thought I was weird. The street outside my mum's is usually a quiet area where not many people walk by much, so I wasn't expecting them to be coming along, plus I didn't even see them coming, they just appeared just as I was playfully blowing the dandelion. Now I feel embarrassed. My family didn't seem to notice me blowing the dandelion, because they were busy talking, but I feel a bit silly doing what I was doing in front of strangers. They probably thought I was ret*d or something.

It's one of those things where it's not embarrassing doing with people you know, but in front of strangers it is. Maybe it'd be more embarrassing if I was out there alone blowing dandelions. But I still felt a fool.
I know I'm probably being too hypersensitive about what strangers think, but that's the way I am. If I had seen then coming, I would have waited til they had passed.

Do you think this was embarrassing?

I wouldn't feel embrassed for blowing a dandelion.
I've done much more excentric things in my life, like having a date when we sat on a tree and ate bread. In a crowdy city center. As I can't stop being weird, I became openly weird.
We have no idea what they thought. Maybe they thought of you as weird, maybe as sensitive and artistic. I'm sure there are plenty of pictures of Insta models blowing dandelions out there.

I know that the 2 people who walked past will forget it, but that still doesn't help my fear of ridicule in these situations. I'm not saying it'll become the top thought on their minds for the rest of their lives, but it will probably make them think that I was a bit doolally and might say "that's where that weirdo probably lives" the next time they walk by. I do visit my mum often. Situations like these can make people label you as the village idiot, and my mum lives in a small town, not a big city.

Your little story made me laugh. (Sorry. I find it amusing).
Don't worry. I have done things a lot, lot more embarissing then that! Umm. I don't know if I should share one or two of them. :D

Not foolish at all, it's rather adorable and carefree. They probably didn't think much of it and you didn't mean to blow them in their face. Maybe doing that brought a nice nostalgic memory to them, they haven't remembered in ages for all you know.

When I was somewhere around my late teens my dad drove us (My dad, mum myself and I believe my brother) to a place around 80 or 90 miles away in mid Wales called The Centre For Alternative Technology. We met my grandparents there and I got to see his cool car. I loved my Grandads car!
Anyway... At this place. It was all about not wasting anything. For example the toilet waste was being used as compost. The toilets. This was the embarissing moment. Well. As a young man, we stand up as we go. I saw two queues of people waiting to go but one urinal was not being used. There was a nice window in front of it so I could look out as I went. I thought to myself "Why isn't anyone else using this one?"
Well, I found out. As I was going it just hadn't occurred to me. I watched a family pass on a path about 100 yards away. As I watched, the parents seemed to be alarmed. They put their hands over their childrens eyes and seemed to be in a hurry to head further across the path. With this scene I was puzzling what had caused them to have such a reaction. I looked down and realized. I was in full view, and from where the family was, it dis not even look like a toilet block.
Well, I spent the next few hours steering my family away feom the other family as we looked round the tourist attraction... Every time someone suggested to see something where I had seen this family go, I would quickly suggest going the other way... I was so, so embarissed and had not said a word to my parents or grandparents.

I've had other embarrassing moments as well. I mean... Not quite like the one above but... Embarrassing in other ways. For example, when I went to use a fax machine for the first time...
