No, I'm in group B - my mum and stepdad are group A, too. I've got to stay at home for four months, too. I have been texting regularly. And I can't drive to see him.
I'm not sure about the socialising risks. I think maybe when group A & B socialise with each other it's not so bad? But I'm not 100% on that.
Everyone who's group A has to stay home. That's anyone with a specified medical condition, newly pregnant or people over 70. Everyone who's group B chooses to stay home for the sake of group A. I live at home so I'm basically forced into that - if I get it my family get it so I'm stuck here too. Group C is expected to go to work and school as always but not socialise afterwards and not mix with people they know who are A or B except to deliver groceries or similar, not to stop afterwards for a cup of tea, just drop it off.
