My dad's immunocompromised because of his kidney.

My dad's schizophrenic and has been institutionalised before.

My dad lives in a bedsit on his own.

Four months. On your own. In isolation. One room so you can't just get up and wander to another one.

There are mentally healthy people who couldn't survive that without becoming suicidal.

But equally there's a deadly virus out there and he has a weak kidney and will be immunocompromised.

How the hell is he meant to survive this?!

I have told him to talk to his doctor. I hope she factors in every single risk and does the right thing. But it feels like there is no right thing only a lot of wrong ones.

That sounds bad alright. :(

Could he at least visit some neighbours? Maybe the risks wouldn't be so high if a few people living very close to each other decided to only socialize among themselves.

Are you able to visit him often?

No, I'm in group B - my mum and stepdad are group A, too. I've got to stay at home for four months, too. I have been texting regularly. And I can't drive to see him.

I'm not sure about the socialising risks. I think maybe when group A & B socialise with each other it's not so bad? But I'm not 100% on that.

Everyone who's group A has to stay home. That's anyone with a specified medical condition, newly pregnant or people over 70. Everyone who's group B chooses to stay home for the sake of group A. I live at home so I'm basically forced into that - if I get it my family get it so I'm stuck here too. Group C is expected to go to work and school as always but not socialise afterwards and not mix with people they know who are A or B except to deliver groceries or similar, not to stop afterwards for a cup of tea, just drop it off.

I hope this situation doesn't last too long....

I can understand your concern.

It is rough for most people to be isolated.

He's going to act like he's group C but only when he needs something.

I hope if he goes for a weekly shop during the week that isn't too risky esp if he stands apart from people. Same with going to the doctor which is allowed in all groups anyway.

Surely they're going to have to bring back home visits?

He is the rare person in my life I don't blame for doing this.

I'm worried for my mum cos we have to basically treat her like a leper in our own home.

He hasn't had his letter yet. He's making the most of it by having his exercise be a really long walk. He's talking a lot about how he can't do a weekly shop cos he never does one.

I told him to get cans and dried food if possible. I don't think he has a freezer.

As long as he has a can opener, he’s in business.

How is he doing?
