A lot of this strikes me as very on-point. I've somehow, very often, found my life getting chipped or damaged by these dynamics and what's most enraging is that this sort of environments (social, home, or work environments where they call the shots) have a way of derailing people's lives and potential.

What it really says - someone else, because they're them and you're not them - is that much more important than you that it's worth them damaging you if you're in any way a competitive threat or in any way are the kind of person who can see through their manner of attempting to dominate and lower your potential. These are the sorts of 'lick my boots or I'll kill you' encounters that I've been dealing with off and it's unfortunately had a lot to do with where I am today.

I also highly recommend Theramin Trees channel for understanding the nature of this sort of thing and the stranglehold it has on the world, he does a really good job on that.
