Minneapolis is turning into a war zone and its terrifying
I alternate living between Duluth and Minneapolis and currently im residing in Minneapolis. Ever since the Floyd riots last year and the ensuing violence crimes have skyrocketed in my city unlike anything ive ever seen before; in fact ive even seen a statistic that shows a whopping 119% homicide increase in Minneapolis since last year!! ! Rapes, stabbings, car jackings, muggings, shootings, and crime in general all have gone up so precipitously its like our city went from an art center to a war torn area overnight. My uncle was mugged just last week in Minneapolis. My cousin was shot in the crossfire of a gang fight months ago. Its scary
Just today while wheelchairing myself from the gym I witnessed a man sucker punch an old woman, smashing her head against the concrete and mugging her. I was so terrified I just stood there and didn't know what to do, until after seconds of paralyzing fear I phoned the police and told them what had happened. they arrived 35 minutes later and by then the perp escaped.
An hour later I was heading to the metro transit bus and I witnessed another crime, literally an hour apart from the previous crime. In broad daylight I witnessed a man trying to rape another woman and honestly I feel disturbed seeing what I saw.
I feel like im going to get PTSD from today.
I wish I can unsee what I never should have seen.
I blame myself for watching that man try to rape that woman and not defending her, and even though I know im crippled due to injuries and that I was paralyzed in fear not knowing how to react, im blaming myself for this and wishing I had done more
I dont think im going to be able to sleep after what I just saw
Luckily when I called the cops for the attempted rape the cops showed up right away. But still I wish I never witnessed what I witnessed.
God help our beautiful city and state!! !

Yikes! This is horrible!
(We desperately need police reform, but "defund the police" is clearly NOT the answer.)

There's an awful lot of desperation and anger out there.
You know what happens when you make the playing field unfair for large segments of society? The hate comes out. Bad mental health from pandemic restrictions and fears makes a lot of people unable to cope. Parenting goes to hell. People can't see their doctor or therapist or even their family (easing now, at least in the US). Then the systemic racism comes out, filmed by passersby or the police's own body cameras. Our previous president continues to stoke hate and anger. The population's ability to discern truth is impaired.
I'm sorry it has impacted you so badly, salad, and yes, it causes PTSD.

Right.
Unfortunately there's a lot of stupid or gullible people out there who can only grasp an understanding of consequences by learning the lessons the hard way, whilst the rest of us have to suffer until those lessons sink in, if they ever do.
There's been a huge increase in violence across the country, and I for one see no obvious explanation, at least none that I could use to make a political point. At least the mayor of Baltimore (the city where I grew up and where my son has lived for the last 10 years) is aware of it and probably has some notion of what he as mayor might do about it, having grown up in a rough neighborhood himself (bringing an end to the succession of political dynasty members in that office). Can't be fixed overnight. BTW this mayor just took office earlier this year, so it's too soon to say what effect his policies might have.
To be honest some people are just plain crazy and others seem extremely prone to violence and in addition are very quick to anger. Some sort of outreach is needed and it won't be easy. You can arrest people and lock them up after they've been convicted of a violent crime but it won't stop others from following suit. Arming the population for self-protection will just lead to having more weapons in the general population including potential violent offenders. At least the crimes the OP witnessed didn't involve firearms.

As much as I hate the American police as being even worse at times than the IDF, id prefer a tyrannical police force than now police force
