A 21yo on my block was crushed to death under his car that fell off jack stands. Happened a couple weeks ago. They just moved into the neighborhood, 4 kids - 3 daughters and he was the eldest kid and only son. His dad had told him not to go under the car while he was away on a quick Costco run. Being 21 he didn’t listen and a tragic accident occurred. One of the neighborhood Nurses did CPR as they waited for EMS. He was on life support for a couple days, but was brain dead soo.. that was it.

Someone’s collecting $ for the family, so of course we just contributed. My friend just had two brand new super safe 2 post 10,000lb bendpak hoists installed in one of his shops. I almost feel like posting in the neighborhood fb group and saying if anyone Needs to lift a vehicle and isn’t comfortable with using jack stands and blocks that if one is available I’ll let them in after hours to let them use it - but I also don’t want to be insensitive by posting something like that and making the family further traumatized. So maybe I’ll just leave it be for now.

In brother news, another neighborhood guy was walking his dog just now. He Was Walking. And looked like he was walking Ok, too. Some woman in a BMW suv, probably an X5, changed lanes literally right over him and his Harley and drove right over his pelvis a year or so ago and crushed him, amputated a testicle, F’d him right up. They didn’t know if he’d even walk again, but here he is walking his dog unassisted. Pure willpower.

It’s not the same, not even close, but I hope the new Philippino family that just lost their son has similar resolve in their will to heal and move forward with life and raising their daughters. Hopefully the $ the neighborhood contributes makes it a little easier to get through things right now. They must be absolutely devastated - the Nurse that did CPR took a 4 day trip with her husband to de-stress and stop the nightmares. Apparently the scene.. wasn’t pretty - and it was one of the sisters and then father that found him. :/

We lost a regular from the beach a few years ago, Boston Bar John, when his RV he was doing a brake job on fell off of jack stands. Not that uncommon I guess. Triple check for safety and use a secondary stop of any kind - bricks, stones, lumber, whatever - anything that’ll keep a vehicle from landing on you if a jack or jack stands fail.

It happened recently in these parts. I have watched people including my family do things that I just have to shut my eyes to, as when I tell them they ignore me and think that they know better. But I know how dangerous it is. I have a very visual mind. I can't stay in such an enviroment unless I know there are precautions. When I raise my car I use two or three jacks and axlestands as I do not trust using one jack by itself, and I do not trust just one axlestand on its own, and I am still scared to go underneath it.

Happened here also.My mechanic’s wife was crushed when she was helping him.
