Scared of my country being attacked (trigger)

I've read today that the US is withdrawing from the war on terrorism in Afghanistan. I am honestly scared that Afghan troops will come to major cities here (especially Cleveland) and kill us all. I have seen an infamous PSA about a girl whose home country got invaded by troops from another country, and it was HORRIBLE! I don't want to end up like her, I have way too much to live for.

I am seriously scared there will be another 9/11, but worse, and I don't want to be raped by Afghan soldiers, just like troops from Myanmar did to innocent women. And I am scared that it will happen right here in Cleveland. I hate living on this planet, I want to go to f***ing Mars where it's peaceful!

History doesnt work that way.

The Taliban are local ragtag guerillas fighting for thier local country- a weak force, but they were able to wait out the US, and its proxies until we left- and they took over when we finnally left. The US was like a boat, and the taliban are like the water that the boat plies. The water gets out of the way of the front of the boat but just closes back in at the boats rear. The Taliban is not a sea monster that can emerge out of the water to attack the dry land far away from the water.

The North Vietnamese army was a lot more powerful than the Taliban. It conquered South Vietnam. But Hanoi had niether the desire nor the capability to project power across the Pacific to attack the US. They just wanted their own country back.

Afghanistan does not border the USA. The Taliban is not going to just march across a border into the US. They are on the other side of the planet. Not an invasion threat even to their nieghbors in western Asia. Much less that to the US.

On the other hand years down the road - the Taliban ruled Afghanistan may well become a staging area for 9-11 type attacks on the US. Just it was 20 years ago. A replay of something like the 9-11 attacks coming from Afghanistan is something to be concerned about.

But thats down the road and would only directly effect a few thousand- like the original 9-11 attacks. The Taliban is not going march into your hometown of Anytown USA, and enslave you personally.

Its a nasty situation over there. But its not a direct threat to you or me personally.

How will these Afghan forces get to America to harm you? It's a long swim and it's not like America would let an invading army land at LAX.

And if another 9/11 was to happen, it wouldn't happen in Cleveland nor Warsaw, nor any other place significant number of the people in the world need to look up to know where exactly it is.
London, Paris, New York, Moscow, Sidney, Tokio or Dubai would make way better targets.

I'm aware that the terrorist was stopped, as well as the fact that this was Al-Qaeda's plan and not the Taliban, but this is still scary sh*t. If they actually succeeded, I would have been dead. Also, as long as a city has a major sports team, it is not exempt from terrorist attacks, and my therapist agreed that the unknown is scary.

I also know for a fact that Oklahoma City has about 600,000 people living there (twice as much as Cleveland), but it got attacked anyway back in '95. Same with Boston in 2013. I also remember an 8th grader telling me that Cleveland might be affected because it had the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the Fifth Third Bank tower, which scared me. Not only that, but on 9/11, many of my classmates were making offensive jokes about it, upsetting me more.

I know you guys think I am nuts for thinking this, but this is a genuine fear I have; I haven't flown in a plane since that day, and the thought of it terrifies me so much, I'm afraid I will have a meltdown on a plane over this.

Oklahoma City was attacked by an AMERICAN. That doesn't count. This was DOMESTIC terrorism.

What was attacked in Boston was the Boston Marathon. It was two schmucks who set off pressure-cooker bombs. One of the schmucks was shot; the other is in prison for life (at least).

Afghanistan is a landlocked country. Hundreds of miles from any ocean.

The scenario you mentioned isn't going to happen.

Personally that's the terrorist threat I'm more worried about, Y'All Qaeda, not Al Qaeda.

You have more of a shot at being able to get to Afghanistan than the Taliban has of being able to get to the US.

Sorry, got my facts a little mixed up. Man, I gotta get my head out of the gutter when making posts, maybe calm down a little before posting. I'm just stressed about the whole situation, that's all (feeling a little better now, though.)
